You know what I mean. The early system that just didn't make the cut.

Very doubtful, for a multitude of reasons. Without going indepth the 360 has more 3rd party support, stronger sales, and a bigger returning consumer base.

No. Halo 3 guarantees that all by itself.

The biggest thing that killed the Dreamcast (and the saturn, and the 32X) was the lack of 3rd party support. Even before it launched guys like EA were saying they weren't going to support it. The 360 doesn't have that problem

IIRC, didn't the DC have a buttload of 3rd party support to begin with? ISTR their marketing campaign constantly mentioning the sheer amount of 3rd party backers they had...
EDIT: And you forgot the Sega CD, too, though I guess that might have just been Sega jumping the gun.

I think Dreamcast really jumped the gun, and didn't have third party support. I think they angered some of them too.
I think 360 has the advatage now.
PS3 seems to have it's work cut out this time. Delay and steep price may be it's undoing. I hope that's not the case, because I'm a Playstation guy.

Well, it's not like the DC had zero support. But next to the PS it just couldn't compare. They didn't have guys like EA or Square behind them. For the most part it was Sega games and arcade ports

Agreed. The first point being the most important.

In the end it was lack of faith in the sega brand that ruined the superior DC. Microsoft wont have this problem. This is the same reason the PSP is succeedeing where everyone but nintendo has failed.

What is this PS3 thing you speak of?

Yes, there is. Vaporware refers to both software and hardware of the non-existant type.
Xbox 360 also has this little company behind it, called microsoft, that has just about a billion times more money then Sega.
