oyoy peeps.

Since contractual stuff prevents me from showing you guys what im working on until it's published, I thought I might share this with you.

This is a book I'm preparing of another kind of work i do. This is my experiment in what happens when i strip away any need to tell a story or create teh illusion of reality, and simply work with colour, shape and light.

The book will be called 'Heads' as, (although this may not be clear) all of the paintings are of people, bodies and faces.

It occurred to me that, in painting comic books, I was always 'capturing' the images, trapping them in little boxes and tying them slavishly to a story.

This is my attempt to set them free.

I have no idea if it has any appeal to anyone here, but some of you have said very kind and encouraging things about my comic work, so what the hell eh? :)

From what I can see, they look great. Lively.
Its just, I'd need a monitor the size of Kansas to see the whole composition. You don't have any versions that are under 600 pixels wide do you?

Lively's a great word for your work here, Greg. So's vibrant. Interesting stuff!

Assassin is definitely my favorite. Love these!

These remind me of a French artist that I've always loved...have you ever seen anything by Odilon Redon? His early charcoal stuff is especially interesting. (You can see some of that stuff here: http://www.ibiblio.org/wm/paint/auth/redon/charcoals/)

Anyway, that's some great stuff! Keep it up!

I hadn't but I gave that link a good old perruse and greatly enjoyed what i saw, thanks for that Troy.

I see what you mean, there are similar threads running through both our stuff. In fact, 'Heads' is kinda maybe what would happen if this guy was born now, Had a mac and a Wacom tablet and smoked untold tree.

Who can say? :)

Nope, it's one of the disatvantages of working only in the digital medium; there's nothing to hang in a gallery. Bummer eh?

You'd be amazed what you can do with them:

Lawks!! How big are those? was it very pricey to print them out?The biggest one is 19" x 36". Including the inkjet print and the laminating, mounting and metal edging, I think it was around a hundred bucks Canadian. (I had it done 4 years ago, so I don't remember the exact price.)

The one of the 3 chicks in the red Buick was only about $40 Canadian, but it's not laminated or anything. The frame was a hundred bucks, though.

A lot of it really depends on the options you choose. The Galactus piece, for example, is actually a photo print on metallic paper. The place where I got it done can also do prints on canvas or watercolour paper.

Food for thought.

I cannot believe how f'n expensive frames are. I gotta pick some up at yardsales or something. I've been buying new ones, and ... ouch.

Yeah, most of mine are custom, I should note that.
Still, fifty bucks for lightweight aluminum and clear acylic is pathetically expensive.
