Hey Richards got a respect thread thread so why can;t Doom?
Feel free to list Doom's greatest moments....as well as some misfires. After all those who ignore the past are doomed to repeat it....

I know, I'll sing the Doom song! Doomdoomdoomddoomdoomdoomdooooom!
Sorry, I was watching Zim. Anyway, I'm having a brainfart and all I can come up with is how much I am loving the 'Books of Doom.' So much love, I couldn't wait for it to come out in trades...
That, and I hate the movie version.

this should be a Mother Doom respect thread. check out how she encouraged Victor to betray the throne and then sold his @$$ out when he failed. hopefully that will get him over his mommy fixation and he'll do something memorable, villainy-wise, this year.

I submit to you there is nothing scarier than a man with his own army and a "mommy fixation" as you put it.

Considering Squirrel Girl owned Thanos, I'd argue that was actually a fairly respectable showing by Doom.

DOOM! DOOM! DOOM! DOOM! DOOM! DOOM! DOOM! DOOM! DOOM!
Doctor Doom is simply the best character in the history of comicdom. The third person speaking, the cape, the attitude, the honour... Doom rocks! Doom's imperial person should not be disturbed!
My favourite moments?
Well obviously him stealing the Power Cosmic!
I also loved it when he delivered his speech to Reed about how Reed was so incredibly arrogant in 'Unthinkable.' Plus in the same story where he told Johnny, Ben and Sue that Reed knew Doom would make a great king and was simply preventing an ascension which would benefit everyone.

Comic Book Laws of Owning:
Rule No.1: Any villian that refers to himself in the third person owns.
Rule No.2: Any villian who calls himself "Doctor" without having a advanced college degree owns.
Rule No.3: Any villian who can carry a crappy FF movie owns
With all that said, I still think that Magneto is a cooler villian, along with Sinister. :p

I like Doom because he has consistently shown an ability to accomplish goals, or come close to accomplishing goals, well beyond his means...even his failures are worthy of respect. As opposed to more powerful, yet under-acheiving, villains like Apocalypse.
One story that sticks out for me is 'Infinity War', where Doom was heavily involved in a cosmic tale that he had no business being in, in the first place. But he is Doom, and he will not be denied. He and Kang lurked in the shadows as the wildcards in the entire crossover, and he came oh so close to grabbing the IG...punking Adam Warlock, Kang, and the Magus before doing so. It was sweet...if you're a Doom fan.

Doom is awesome for several of billions of reasons but I shall just name a few:
1. Secret War 10 thats all I have to say. (I'm talking about the first secret war not the nick fury one)
2. his quotes>Everyone except Deadpools
3. The abilty to say DOOM like that I mean come on can you speak in bold and captailzations I don't think so.
4. He has 3 goals:
A. Rescue his mother from the grip of mephisto which he did in Doom and starnge: Triumph and Torment
B. Rule the world which he has done on more then 1 occasion.
C. Destroy Reed Richards
the fact that he has accomplished 2 of them is awesome in itself but now the main thing driving him to do what he does is to DESTROY RICHARDS.
and finally
5. HE IS DOOM.

It has been a while; but I didn't think the Beyonder was playing with him. I understood that he had somehow tricked the Beyonder into forfeiting his power.

Stilt Man has moved up now. He's just faought Ms. Marvel and he'll be taking on the Punisher soon.
He's still better than Paste-Pot-Pete... or Trapster now, right?
But I digress, Doom has done what all villains dream of achieving on a cosmic scale. And has a popular rapper spin-off. And the honor of being drawn iconically by Jim Lee in Heroes Reborn. And having his own Origin miniseries. Yeah.

I was referring to stealing the Beyonder's power. The rest of them merely competed in the game, and wanted to go home, or have their wish granted.
Doom actually had the audacity to take on the Beyonder--and even with missing limbs, and on the verge of death--almost willed himself to succeed.

Magneto was drawn by Jim Lee. Magneto's origin has been retold in college essay form. Magneto's got his own protocols via the United Nations. Magneto was played by a classicly-trained actor. Magneto might have his own movie. Magneto has a t-shirt line. Magneto had his own company-wide crossover.
p.s. Trapster actually beat and captured Mr.Fantastic. i wonder if Doom knows this.

DOOM!!!!
I just got that classic FF issue by Byrne where it's a day in Latveria. Good stuff.
The only thing that keeps Doom from destroying Richards is the fact that Doom needs someone lesser than him to battle. Man, the Books of Doom mini was good, too bad he had to kill Valeria in FF.
And where are people getting the idea that Doom is a eunich? If he wanted to he could bear a kid with every woman in Latveria.

As was Doom. Heroes Reborn ring a bell?
Magneto's got his own protocols via the United Nations.
You know *why* the U.N. doesn't have any protocols for Doom? Because they know there's absolutely nothing they can do to Victor.
In Claremont's run the FF and S.H.I.E.L.D ran several holographic scenarios where Doom used Latveria's resources to conquer the world. And Doom won them *all*!
Reed was unnerved watching this. Btw, the scenarios included S.H.I.E.L.D, FF and the Avengers working together.

And where are people getting the idea that Doom is a eunich?
The only time I can think of Doom having sex or relationship with a woman was with the Valeria flashbacks in Waid's run.
Other than that he's turned down *the Enchantress* in Secret Wars. Who was on her knees *begging* him to be her consort.
In the first arc he appeared post-Heroes Reborn one of his allies, a sexy Atlantean queen from HR-Earth who tried to seduce him so she could kill him once he took off his armour.
He told her point blank he never takes off his armour under any circumstance---and that she didn't interest him sexually. At all.
If he wanted to he could bear a kid with every woman in Latveria.
While true Doom considers sex beneath him. He prefers to use that energy to furthur his goals. Like Batman. Only Bruce sleeps and has relationships with more women.
Magneto Rocks

Magneto X has it down pat. The problem is, Doom would only have a sexual relationship with an equal or near equal. But there ARE none. (Well, there was Valeria.) Such are the problems of being perfect by law.
Magneto_X
02-06-2007, 03:04 PM
Valeria was pre-Doom. That's why he found her "worthy". He was still a normal guy (or as close to one as he could get to be).
Post-Doom is a different story. That Doom still loved her but viewed her only as a means to an end: to get power. He didn't hesitate to kill her at that stage.

I fully admit that I've not read all that much Doom (Triumph and Torment and his part in Secret Wars were awesome, though). And the only reason for that is because he doesn't have his own book. I'll be damned if I'm going to read the Fantastic Fops on the off chance that Doom appears. How in God's name is it that the greatest villain (or hero, depending on how you look at things) in all of comic-dom has consistently lost to a complete loser whose only ability is to stretch and act pompous?
I'm currently working at becoming a professional writer (like every other oxygen-breathing mammal on the planet, I know). I swear before all of my fellow internet nerds that if I'm ever given the opportunity, there will be an alternate (at least) Earth in the Marvel Universe in which Doom rules something very like a utopia. It would center around his repeated triumphs at thwarting Reed Richards' terroristic plots to overthrow his one world government centered in Latveria.

Personally, I'd really love to see more of the alternate Dr. Doom's world that was shown in A-Next.
I mean, Dr. Doom being raised by Red Skull, then taken control of the world and forcing every superhuman in it to either join is "team" or be executed has tons of potential. Pity we didn't get the chance to actually see the Avengers fight Doom's Thunderguard.

I honestly never understood why people claim that Reed is smarter than Doom when Reed clearly is not.
Doom tends to lose more often than not because he has problems controlling his emotions which causes him to act rashly. Reed wouldn't be nearly as effective as he is if he had Ben's temper control. But the real reason why Doom loses is very simple. It's because if he ever completely wins, the Fantastic Four is gone and so are all the other heroes. By virtue of being the bad guy, he cannot win.
Everyone talks about how Reed saw a mistake in Doom's calculations. So what? It's not like Reed has never made a mistake. His powers are the result of one of those mistakes. And how can we be sure that Doom would have had the same results if not for Reed? Doom has a tremendous ego. The second Reed said there was a mistake, Doom's pride took away the chance of his ever double checking the figures. If not for Reed, maybe Doom would have checked those figures again on his own.
Plus in the past, Doom has accomplished things that Reed never did. In FF 350 he cured Ben. Reed had been trying for years, but Doom actually did it!
Doom's failures are due to his need for recognition. He's the smartest person on Earth (well tied for it), but that's not enough for him. He needs people to recognize it and laud him for it. His ego also precludes him from being able to admit that there is actually someone else out there that is that good, although once in awhile he does show respect for Reed's mind.
The other reason why I think Doom fails is because I think he doesn't want to win. In the past he's taken over the planet and given it up because he was bored. Doom likes the conflict. Sure he'd be the greatest ruler in all of history, but at the end of the day he'd be bored to tears. Furthermore, if Reed dies, he'll be alone. Reed is the only person in the world who can comprehend the things that Doom sees. The only one who can really ever have an idea what it is like to be Doom. Finally, he can't defeat Reed because he doesn't actually want to kill him. He wants to humble and break Reed, but Reed, like Doom himself, is almost impossible to break. Reed's will never give in, and without his being humbled, the victory is worthless to Doom.
