There really is a conspiracy theory about everything, isn't there? Don't we have better things to worry about than the color of Mars?

There was an article on this in Discover a while back (actually, it might have been Science News. One of the two, though) about this.
The reason for the color mistakes is because NASA cut corners when transmitting images, and just used the ultraviolet plate for the blue and the infrared for the red instead of using the normal red and blue colors. That way, they cut down on bandwidth with the minor side affect of the colors being wrong in some of the photos. Hmmm. That probably could have been worded better.
No conspiracy here.
