PPl are always bitchin' about Jean Grey's constant deaths and rebirths, so I thought I'd start this thread: what Marvel characters have died and come back more than Jean? the top candidates:

Adam Warlock. He has died numerous times, most recently in She-Hulk a few months ago and returned (off panel, I believe) fairly quickly.

Wonder Man.
I've lost track of how many times he's frenched kissed death.

Thanos
ditto.

Any others, and the actual issue numbers where the deaths and rebirths occured would be appreciated.

I'm pretty sure that dr doom and red skull own the title.

Thing is, Jean has only died a bunch of times if you count all the retcons. But if you count all the retcons, most of those deaths weren't Jean. So she's really only died twice. Once either when the Phoenix took over, or when Phoenix bought it on the moon, and again when Morrison killed her off a few years ago.

Mr Immortal of the Great Lakes Avengers.. but he's only interesting when he gets killed.

How many times has Wolverine died?

I think of a character as dying is if the general consensus of the title that the characters death occured is that they are dead, and if the writer doesn't show or imply that the character survived.

in the case of dr doom where he dies and it turns out to be a doombot, only if it's revealed right away that it is a doombot do I not count it as a death. same with jean grey or red skull. The character dies in the title then there comes up with some story that explains how come the character didn't 'die' it's still a death in my book.

Yeah, but one of those deaths, she was apparently resurrected instantly. So you can't count both her going into Parrot Bay, since everyone thought she was the Phoenix, and Phoenix's death, since it wasn't really her.

I don't know how jean has died other than the first time, so I'm not really commenting on her deaths.

doom was killed by tyrrax, not sure how he was killed other times,

Red skull was recently killed by lukin, but it was always planned for him to come back, he died of natural causes in captain america #300 and of course came back as a clone of steve rogers, I'm sure there are at least three or four other times he's died (mostly involving the cosmic cube)

I don't know if it's worth counting dead villains. They die and come back every other week, always have.

Regarding Warlock, his first death was part of a pretty weak Biblical parallel in which he was crucified on Counter-Earth and resurrected the next issue, "3 days later," so the death and resurrection were both part of the same story. (Hulk 176-178)

The next time he "died" is somewhat debatable. He went into the future and stole his future self's soul into his soul gem. Later we saw it happen from the perspective of the future self - mortally wounded by Thanos, his past self arrived and stole his soul. (Warlock Vol. I #11, Avengers Annual #7.)

The question is, did he truly "die"? His body died, but his soul lived quite comfortably in the peaceful Soul World within the soul gem. It wasn't the afterlife, it wasn't "Heaven," (although it was certainly similar). Later the Silver Surfer and Drax were brought to Soul World (SS #46), and they weren't dead - Thanos merely stole their souls. So it can be argued that Warlock never actually died at that time.

Since returning from Soul World in Infinity Gauntlet #1, he's been alive. I'll overlook the She-Hulk thing, which I didn't see and which was presumably kind of a joke.

When Thanos "died" the first time, he did not really die. His soul was trapped in unliving stone denied death.

Mr. Immortal. Hands down.

It's his power, people!
