After reading the first Slayers Novel by Hajime Kanzaka I've been obsessed with getting more. Now that I've finished all the ones that are currently out in the U.S. I've decided to try and write something similar.
Volume 1: The King
Prologue: A Night Out
It was a bar, one of the best ones here in Anta, and tonight more than any other it was particularly rowdy. Men and Women sang, drank, and laughed, one table in particular was roaring with laughter, the inhibitors turning red and gasping for air. Everybody was having a great time, well everybody except one, me. Over in the corner I sat, my friend, Saintz, keeping me company.
“Why don’t you socialize, get up and have fun? Tonight’s a night for celebration.”
Scrunching up my face in disgust I replied, “Saintz, you should know me by now. I don’t socialize; I keep to myself and talk to other people only when I’m explaining, when they engage me first, and if I care about them.”
It’s not so much that I have problems is that everybody else does, people are so stupid and immature, I can’t stand to be around them. Hell, I’m 15 and I act more mature then some of the 20 year olds in the city.
Act your age dammit!
“So which am I? At the moment I fit all of them.”
“You know that I care about, you’re my friend after all.” I swear he loves hearing me call him that. “Alright, I’m leaving,” I said getting up. “I can’t take much more. I think my brain’s melting.”
“Going back to the library?”
“Of course, there’s no place better for a person like me.”
“Well if you do,” he said playfully. “You’ll miss Evan.”
“Evan’s coming here!? Don’t joke, if this a ploy-”
“It’s not a ploy, I’m serious.”
Smirking he mentioned me to sit, I obeyed, using all the will power I had not wipe the smirk of his face. “Think about it, Evan was the leader of the campaign that defeated the Archdemon Nazarath in Floveria. The campaign is having a party here; of course he has to come. And you call your self smart?” He laughed, I glared. I mentally went over my list of spells, searching for something that I could use to hurt him-not to much, he was my friend, but just enough.
I sighed and reluctantly said, “I guess it makes sense.”
“So are you still leaving?” The insufferable smirk got bigger. He acts like he doesn’t already know the answer. I sighed again and ordered chicken soup; it was going to be a long night.
