I suppose it's high time to do a thread of artwork for myself.
So without further ado:

EDIT: I guess I should point out that the last six posts or so have all be done in Adobe Illustrator.

The Grand Prix one is still my favourite. You really captured the look of those old posters.

Ever thought about doing something along the lines of the old Russian propaganda posters? I think that your style would be a natural fit for that sorta thing.

I work as a graphic designer for the Arizona Historical Society. I do the Society's newsletter, and we were always ending up with not enough content, so one day I drew this strip on Katherine Stinson and threw it in a hole in the newsletter.

My least favorite newsletter cartoon. The story is interesting enough, but I feel wasn't "on" when I illustrated it. Deadline pressures!

Thanks, man! Yeah, I want to start moving towards Roger Broders (http://www.christopherco.com/body3.cfm/poster_cat_id/112) work. But I have two pieces in the hopper that I need to finish before I can start in that direction.

Okay, I just had a brainstorm - can't you design your own stamps in the States? Do a series as stamps, and print a sheet of them as a portfolio piece. Or just use them when you send mail to clients.

I don't think I can do stamps - gonna have to check on that. But I did do quarters:
The Arizona Historical Society's Executive Director is on the state quarter committee and she ask me to do a few samples.

I kinda think that this kinda of stuff quickly approaches pseudo-art. I mean, all you're doing is taking a photo and running it through a filter.

With your use of mixed media, that's something I'd actually anticipate seeing.
It's just such a fine line. I mean, what you're talking about doing is actually something, and even markscomics (if he uses live trace) does enough to make it his 'own' but in some cases, like my examples, it's ultimately a cheat.

It's definitely something that gets used as a tool by people who can't draw, that's for sure. I think that's a big part of the reason that I've turned away from using filters much in my work.

Still trying some new stuff. This time out, I wanted to do a blurry city background. I'm not happy with the transparencies, though. I didn't flatten the image manually, and maybe that's why there's some choppiness to those blurred lights. I might have to futz with that later.

Yeah, it makes sense and I agree with the out of place eye. But that's the point of these sketches having a time limit and in pen, so I'm not endless erasing bits I didn't get right. The theory being eventually I'll improve enough to where I do get everything right. At least that's the theory.

This is awesome. I like that you are challenging yourself, and those latest women illustrations are downright beautiful.

I woke up this morning and started, during coffee, to use a gold paint pen on a painted card background I did a few weeks ago. No sketch, no practicing, just right away lines. I must admit, it is very freeing (and fast) not to be erasing much, and I like it for practice.
