This is a great anime. It starts sort of slow but episode 5 is hillarius. I got the subtitle japanese dvds. I didn't realize how cool subtitiles were until then.

Though, IMO, the ending sucks immensely, and the follow-up movie took away 99% of the comedy to turn it into an almost stereotypical space-opera... What they did to Akito and Yruika can not, should not be forgiven...

There is novels and the games to cover what happened after the ending to the anime tv series,(which covered about three years) but yeah the ending sucked. And the movie sucked as well.

Wait. There's a movie? Is it available in America? Probably if you've seen it... The spoilers didn't really spoil much fortunately for me. It's getting gradually better asI watch it. So far I've only seen episodes 1-6.

The audience went "Huh?! Who replaced Nadesico with Eva?"

I am very disappointed that the last ten videos only have two episodes apiece on them. Who's heard of a vcr tape, with TWO EPISODES? Couldn't they have five four episode tapes instead of ten two episodes?

Best things about Nadesico are the unpredictability and the reckless pace of it. They went about assaulting the conventions of anime and space opera in general with a sledge hammer, and they clearly had great fun doing it.
The movie, while emotionally unsatisfying in any case, has to be seen in the same context, otherwise it has very little value.

I've got 61 VHS tapes with 2 or less episodes on them. If you are buying anime on VHS in the US, expect 2 episodes per tape.
Nadesico is definite fun, especially the recap episode that results in a paradox (Akito copied a move from an anime that copied the move from him in their universe).
I kind of wish they had translated the novel, so the movie would make a bit more sense. The manga is fairly different from the show and movie.

I could give a summary of what happened in the novel from a old post if you want it, Melchior.
I never watched Nadesico on vhs. Didn't get into it until a couple years back when I saw a whole bunch of Ruri pictures.
Also, in Japan they are releasing a dvd box set of Nadesico and a box set of all the Nadesico cd's around this time. Gonna buy the cd set soon.

I know, I'm just being picky but the first two vcrs had three so I was hoping for three on them all. Watched the fourth tape today. My mind is filled with screamings of "AKITO!" AKTO! AKTO! AKTO! Two of the best episodes yet. So far my favorites are episodes 5, 9, and 10. I did check to make sure that they had the movie and they did, so when I'm done with the regular series I'll rent that.
Megumi-chan would make such a good model. She has ALL THE MODESTY REQUIRED (none). "Luckily I programed this to be a little more adult." she thinks. Akito stares at her breast. Sure you didn't realize dresses were so short Megumi-chan, sureeeee... :D

Just saw the aforementioned episode with Gekigangar 3 taking the move from Martian Successor Nadesico and them taking it from them. I LOVE THIS SHOW! Anyone know if the Gekigangar 3 tv show's single episode is available in the US or, if not if if I can get it on the internet somewhere? Again my mind is full of screams of Akito. Particualrly because a full minute or two was devoted to all the time Yurika has said Akito. (It was a recap.)
