green arrow, what's going on??

i was thinking about picking this book up since i'm a fan of scott mcdaniel, plus i've always thought oliver seemed like a cool character but i'm not real familar with him. is now a good time to jump on, what do i need to know and are there some issues i need to get 1st??

Now's a great time to jump on, you really don't need anything in the past. Right now Ollie is mayor of star city, his son is part time green arrow (although this wil be liek the first time ever that we see him. guy's been a no show for a while now. I'm not sure DC remembers he's alive). Speedy has aids. that's about it. Deathstroke is going to go fight him soon.

Speedy is currently Mia though, not Roy. In case it's really been a while.

In the last issue Ollie had a fight with the archer Merlyn and ended up with two arrows stuck completly through his chest. Next month starts the One Year Latter and Ollie is the mayor of Star City. I would say start with next months issue and see if you like it from there.

Green Arrow is an extremely underated book... great action and intensity not seen in a lot of others... looking forward to see what happens after that unbelievable climax to the last issue.

Definitely start from issue #60 next month. In the meantime, get 'The Longbow Hunters' by Mike Grell.

Well, I haven't read GA for a while, but avoid the latter part of Judd Winick's run. Get the first five trades, then skip over to the OYL issue.

Mia is Speedy now but Roy Harper was Speedy. Roy Harper is now Arsenal. Connor is Ollie's son.

Mia has Aids. Mia was a character Kevin Smith created when he first started Green Arrow, she was a teen escort/prostitute that Olly rescued, kind of.

Arsenal is the name Roy Harper took on when he became a proper sort of adult superhero, since he no longer fit the Speedy role or age, so I don't believe there was an Arsenal before him, although someone may tell me otherwise.

their cool now but Connor doesn't know that he was ditched. Another reason why I think they'll kill Arsenal off. They've played the bad Dad thing with GA since Roy was a teen, and played the Roy feeling abondoned issue for years. They look to be gearing up to play the same thing with Connor when he finds out his Dad knew he was born but abandoned him, so they don't need the story played out with both 'sons', the arrow family is looking crowded, Mia, Connor and Ollie are all accounted for and quoted as being alive OYL, but Arsenal isn't so if they wipe one out it will be Roy.

Correction - Connor has never gone by the name Speedy. He's only ever been a second "Green Arrow", or just gone by "Connor".

I'm really hoping that with ollie as mayor connor can get more spotlight as the green arrow.

It's a shame, but it does seem they haven't even tried to develop Mia as a character. Let's hope they sort that out OYL, providing she doesn't die of AIDs ofcourse.

I think in the Boys Night Out issue (34?) Roy discussed with connor why some think he was gay, Connor said hes just waiting to find the right girl. Also in the issue where the bank gets blown up and Arsenal goes missing the Outsiders come in and are helping look for him and Grace jokingly suggest that Connors gay as well.
Anyway so far Connor is not gay and looks to be staying that way, and Roy is far from being gay.

Well Connors getting his own mini, so this series of GA is about Ollie, and Ollie as GA(thats my bet). I think they'll give Connor a new name and maybe a new costume in his mini, I'm waiting for the Connor mini to jump on, I've really only followed Arsenal and thats usually the only GA books I buy when Roy's in them. But now Roys kind of vanished I'm hopeing to find another charactor to follow, and hopefully the Connor mini will be a kick start, though I'm totally bummed out and in Roy withdrawl at the moment. :(

he did , it was a crazy ghost town and he didn't know she was dead until the next morning. it's from, idk, some time in the late 90s, or when superman turned blue or something, pretty early on in the connor-related green arrow stories. i don't remember what issue, but i'm sure someone'll look it up eventually
