If so, was it any good? And if not, why? I just read this guy's Black Panther and his T'Challa is extremely close to how I would like to see Batman handled.

I just read an old special penned by him called Batman The Hill. Anyway Chris has done a lot of work at DC but the then editorial climate at DC has left him bitter about the whole experience. Especially regarding what should have been his masterpiece the book called Xero.

I thought THE HILL was dreadful. A rather generic story that was confusing at times.

Back when he was using the name "Jim Owsley," Priest wrote a couple of post-"Death in the Family" issues of BATMAN (#431 and 432). Highly recommended. He also wrote a Batman/Two-Face story for BATMAN ANNUAL #13, which I did not like so much because Batman was behaving rather uncharacteristically.

Priest would be perfect for Batman. He is such an intelligent superhero writer, whose scripts treat heroes with a realistic sophistication and just does dark, brooding, mature heroes so well.

As James Owsley he wrote Batman #431 & #432 from March & April of 1989. I don't remember much about the issues though, other than that they followed close after A Death in the Family.

All I can remember about his Batman stories was that I though they were rubbish.

He needs to be writing SOMETHING!!! He's too talented to just be out there floating...

I remember thinking, at the time, that those two Batman stories were "okay, nothing special." Maybe the Priest of today could do better. People seem to like his Black Panther work. I wouldn't know. Having disliked almost all of his DC work, I had no desire to follow him back to Marvel. Apparently he got better.

I know Batman is a character he’s always wanted to do. Who knows?

Yeah, The Hill wasn't all that great. But I loved his Captain America and The Falcon series. And his Black Panther was pretty good, too. So, now that he is a more confident writer, maybe his Batman will knock it out of the park.

I dislkied his DC work too. I tried the first couple of Black Panther tpbs because of the hype - and they were cheap. They were a big improvement on his DC stuff, but I wasn't really grabbed by then

As James Owsley he wrote Batman #431 & #432 from March & April of 1989. I don't remember much about the issues though, other than that they followed close after A Death in the Family.

#431 shows Batman return to a monastary after seeing an assasin use a technigue that could have only been taught by one man. dennis o'neil claims that this story inspired the monastary scenes in Batman Begins.

#432 has Batman do a favor for a Kinsey Milhone-like P.I. by breaking into FBI headquarters in Gotham for important files.

Both issues have fine Jim Aparo art and nice touches refering to Jason's death.
