A brief discussion between Howy and Naldo spurred this topic: How much would you say you spend on classic comics weekly and/or monthly?

Since I recently bought a store, I haven't been spending too much as I wade through the inventory room and take my pickings. Still, that darned Lone Star and eBay call to me... lol. I'd say that I roughly spend anywhere from $100-$150 weekly on books; not counting what I drop for original art pieces.

On the dark side, how's about those purchases you make---when you straddle the fence thinking "Is it too much? Oh, who gives a damn!"---that leaves you feeling like you've just been punched in the stomach? Don't they just hurt?! :D

When do comics become classics?
How old should they be?

pre 70s stuff i guess, then it's not so much i spend on it but i buy showcases and essentials, and even some DC archives and Marvel Masterworks so it maybe a couple of hundred dollas a year.

80s comics and some 90s comics is the big part for me, i spend most money on them, sometimes maybe 150-250 dollars a month, but it depends, i spend most in the winter season.

And all money i spend on things that makes me happy i don't consider lost or feel angry about, what better can you do with your money?

I buy every Showcase Presents DC puts out and almost every Marvel Essential (I own all the x-stuff already). So right there that's about $25-37 a month for me. I've been picking up Legion of Super Heroes Archives at discounts lately too.

Once every other month or so I browse ebay for a nice 80's or 90's collection of comics for reading. Not really classic, but its the stuff from my childhood I couldn't afford at the time so is in a way classic to me. I pretty much do the same at the local convention here a couple times a year.

So it really varies. But I'm pretty much locked in at least $25 a month on Essentials and Showcase's.

EDIT: I also pick up the Chronicles books that DC puts out (I really wish they'd release more), the Dark Horse Conan reprints, and I picked up the first Red Sonja reprints by Dynamite and will probably continue.

Ebay tells me I've "won" $428.00 worth of stuff in the last 60 days. I'm pretty sure that's all comics. Plus I've probably ordered $100.00 worth of trades from instocktrades.com during the same period, so I guess you could say I'm on something of a binge.

There is no average for me. I don't pick up one back issue of a given title each month like I do with the new stuff. I buy runs and individual issues as my mood and finances suit me. I can go months without buying any old issues and then drop $300 in a day. If there's a show in town, I can easily drop a grand or more. In some ways, I miss the old days where, once you'd rummaged through the bins of your LCS, there just wasn't anything more to buy. The age of ebay makes the sky the limit.

So I have no average.

Suddenly I don't feel so bad.

Yeah... and it's one of the reasons I do, lol. I really need to curb that thar spending. Just been having a little too much fun with it, lately. Seems that whenever I get close to finishing one run, I'll stumble onto another that I want to fix. Course, I'm blaming it on my meds making me a bit too happy and carefree! :D

Yes, it seems that it alway is a new run or another hole in a run to fill.
I have not really completed much, when i start to look for the harder issues i always find something else to buy and so on.
