Haha! He's got a MALP (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MALP) repairing his tank. The Bat-MALP! Coolest cross-over ever!

Well then. At least they get out of the car in #4. How many issues until they leave the batcave?

As someone at Newsarama pointed out that when Bendis did the pointless splash pages in New Avengers, it was the end of the world.

AS Batman fans should be LOVING Bendis... Miller is trying yp userp the decompression crown from Bendis... without the snappy dialogue!

I would so laugh if these were the last six pages of the comic and they're still in the Batmobile. So much...

Besides that, great effort from Jim Lee :)

I like the idea. The image looks great, though I feel there is a bit too much concentration on vehicles. It's interesting to see that the giant penny isn't there. Perhaps we'll see that redone later on in the seres.

Well, the image looks cool! Can't wait to get a hold of this issue.
But the writing... Well the writing is still horrible!

...In all honesty? Meh. Some suits of armor. The dinosaur I've seen a zillion times. The cars are cool, but... meh. Doesn't make ASB worth buying.

Okay, free money on the front cover wouldn't make ASB worth buying, but still.

Nice picture but ASB&R is pure crap!

6 pages and no giant penny? Shenanigans I tell you! Shenanigans!

My favorite quote from the article...

"As always, the madness started with Frank Miller's script," says Lee.

Too true!

The art looks fabolious..it seems like DC took a step from New Avengers, fans dont mind bad writing as long as there is great art.

Miller did a four page fold out in RONIN, well before "New Avengers" was even a twinkle in Bendis' eye. So lets get our history straight before we continue the condeming of any idea Miller might have.

As for the giant penny, remember this is EARLY in Batmans career, maybe he hasn't gotten it yet! Nobody thought of that? really? besides it just might be that it's taking him 42 issues to move it in to the cave!

I'm pretty sure the gigantic penny is there. It appears to be on the far right side, past the stairs, but it is partially obscured. Check it. Call me an a-hole if I'm wrong. BTW, who could tell me where the penny came from?

I just googled it and it appears to from "The Penny Plunderer." It was a pretty old tale, has the story of the penny been updated since then?

I'm at work on my SH&$%Y work pc. so I can't see the image at a good resolution, when I get home I'll look at it, but for now I can't see if the penny is there, or not. I'm just defending why it MIGHT not be there.

I don't think your an a-hole. :)

I didn't see it either. I think you see a rock, but I might be wrong.

ok, so I looked, now that I'm at home, and yes the penny is there. It's waaaaaaay in the back.

if you follow (left to right) the suits of armor, to the stairs, the penny is just off the the right, it's obscured, but it is there...no joke. My monitor kicks total ass, so I can see it.

here is the penny enlarged with photoshop!

It's neat to hear Jim Lee's thoughts on laying out this page. I sometimes criticize Lee for being an artist who just draws cool poses, but I have a lot more respect for his craft now that I know how much thought he puts into it. (Mind you, whether he succeeded in accomplishing what he wanted is another story.)

If this six-page spread are extra pages, then cool. If these six pages come at the expense of story pages, not so cool.

thats what I'm saying. How does this count towards the 22 pages of story?

Thanks goddamned batman, I now know I'm not going crazy (at least not yet, I just got done working and have been awake for 30 hours, so I may be there soon). So I wonder how could Batman possibly defeat the Penny Plunderer without Robin's help? I just remembered the episode of Batman:TAS called "Legends of the Dark Night" and in that episode there was a part w/ Batman & Robin fighting Two-Face and he had tied Robin up onto the penny. But still, does anyone know of any more modern comics where the origin of the penny was retold?

Actually the big penny is in the Fortress of Solitude (I dont think this is a spoiler) in All Star Superman 2.

I dont know if there are two pennies or if the stories even take place in the same universe, they dont seem like they do.

Does anyone besides me hate the fact that the All Star re-launches couldnt even get out of the first four issues (2 for AS Superman) before the batbook drug out Superman and the SUuerman book drug out mentions of Batman?

With AS Superman I thought was okay. From what I've read, Morrison is writing the Superman from the Silver age. It's only in passing he mentions Batman. But for ASB&R Batman I don't want to see yet another Batman vs Superman fight.

I find it kinda odd that batman has the penny, the t-rex, 15 batmobiles, and all this other junk in the cave already. isn't this like year two? In year one he doesn't even have one batmobile, let alone twelve of them.

I don't know the origin of the penny, modern or otherwise. Anybody know the penny origin?

Then don't buy Batman comics by Miller :)

The six-page spread of the bat-cave is lovely and all, but is there any mention when the issue is actually coming out?

The Roman Legion costumes and Japanese Samurai costumes are very apropos. However I don't expect much to happen storywise.

At first I thought it was really interesting but then I remembered that so far we have 1 issue where some redhead is excited about going on a date with bruce wayne.

Another issue where Batman is beating up on a kid that just saw his parents take a bullet in the head.

The latest issue where Black Canary rides a motorcycle and Superman lives in a city where the news reporting is so fast that Robin's abduction is in the paper while he's still being abducted.

Pardon my lack of patience but this series just made my drop list.
