There was something in the most recent Wizard Magazine about the villains that Batman will encounter in the next film. Can anyone give me a rundown of what it says?
I'd appreciate it.
Cool.

Basically who may be up for various roles.
Joker - Lachy Hulme, Paul Bettany and Adrien Brody were suggested.
Two-Face/ Harvey Dent - Liev Schreiber, Guy Pearce, Josh Lucas.
Talia - Rachel Weisz
Penguin - Bob Hoskins or Phillip Seymour Hoffman

Aw, I was hoping there was some truth to the 'Johnny Dep as the Joker' rumors.

They mentioned those guys if WB didn't go for someone big like him...
Personally, I hope Hulme gets it. A recognizable face under the Joker make up will be distracting.

Hm, fair enough. I suppose the fact Johnny Depp is the object of my perverse sexual lust means that I may find him as the Joker distracting, to say the least

man if they cast Depp as Joker I will not be pleased.
I got nothing against Depp, infact i like most of his work, but...as the joker?!?! No way, Jack was great, but he didn't fall into the role enough for my taste, he was just being Jack, in Jokers costume. Don't get me wrong I love that movie, but I want to see the Joker, not the Depper. I like unknown actors, although Sin City did work very well. But, Bruce was Bruce, a great Hartigan, but still very Bruce. I just think the Joker is a character that needs to be just the Joker, and not some well known face thats hard to seperate from their other roles, or just their celebrity in general.
Harvey on the other hand could easily be played by someone with a more famous face. Penguin I'm still on the fence about, but overall I have faith in the bat-film teams judgement. Can't wait.

I agree with you. I mean, I'll just keep expecting him to grow a mustache, grab a sword and start bucaneering his way through Gotham on a ship. Lol, okay, maybe not, but still, I just can't see him fitting this role. Just MO.
BTW, while we're on the topic of villains, I'd like to see more of the Scarecrow. The actor who played him did the best job, and I feel the movie didn't do justice with him having so little screentime (only like, twenty seconds with him riding a horse before Katie Holmes, HOLMES OF ALL CHARACTERS, ousts him).
My opinion and I stick with it. :)

I think Brody would make a great Joker. He has the perfect face for it and I think he has the acting skills to pull it off.

I *hope* this is who they pick:
(1) Paul Bettany (Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Gangster #1, A Beautiful Mind) for The Joker. If you want to see how good he would be as the Joker, watch Gangster #1 because in that movie he's got the satistic part down, with just the right edge of craziness. Add a little humor and *BAM* JOKER.
(2) Jake Gyllenhaal (October Sky, Donnie Darko, Jarhead) for Two-Face/Harvey Dent. He was the lead in all those movies and I think he can do Dent/Two-Face. He's flexed some good acting muscles in those movies.
(3) Bob Hoskins (Brazil, Super Mario Bros, Enemy at the Gates) for Penguin. Yes he was Mario but I think he can pull off the Penguin. Check out Brazil or Enemy at the Gates.
Anything else it doesn't really matter to me, as long as Goyer still writes it but since he's off doing Blade for Spike TV and Flash . . . it might not be as good as Begins. But Nolan is still a great director so I have some faith still.

Th big difference there is that Jack Nicholson plays Jack Nicholson in everything he's in. Johnny Depp on the other hand is an incredibly versatile actor who can be completely unrecognisable from one role to the next. I think he would make a fantastic Joker

Liev Schreiber as Dent would be perfect casting. The man can act.

Depp would probably be beyond incredible as the Joker, regardless of him not looking the part the man will bring that character to life in a way no one has ever done before. Plus, his name attached to the film would mean more box office revenue for the sequel.

And, ummm... you guys know Johnny Depp has been in movies besides Pirates of the Caribbean and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, right?

I'd like to see Talia as the villian, rather than repeating the characters from the Burton/Schumacher movies.

Two-Face - Jake Gyllenhaal
No, just... no.
Two-Face is an extremely complex character. I can't see this guy playing him. And for another: I don't like him much (personal bias counts right?). I always thought Ray Liotta would be a good nominee for the role... Hell, he's my only nominee. :D
Maleficentogre

ray liotta would be a great two-face. I think tomy lee jones should get a second crack at it. You honestly can't say he had much to work with the first time around.

Jake Gyllenhaal should stay away from the Batman films... He's okay but I don't think he's very good. Liev Schreiber for Two-Face is much better.

I would love to see Talia but that's ok if she is not. I would love to see Two-Face to be in the extremely f***ed up Jekyll and Hyde mode.
They better get Joker right. I have faith in Nolan.

Joker will be good. Since only harvey's in the next movie I think someone like ray liotta or someone with a mobster's mentality would be great for the movie. Maybe a randy garcia or don harvey. Or for a big stretch steve harris. He's already clayface.

Because, y'know, he's never done anything else.
I'm trying desperately not to use a roll eyes emoticon here...
Seriously, Depp's not my ideal choice but then I don't know who would be. I can say that Depp and Schreiber are probably the two best actors on the list - never really rated Brody and I think Liotta may be past it.
Random thought: John Cusack as the Joker?

Liev is perfect for the role in the same way that Bale was perfect for Batman.

Haven't you guys seen brokeback Mountain? Jake is an amazing actor. But i'd prefer Guy Pearce as Dent, the original favourite. And Adrian Brody as the joker.

some of the comments in this thread are hilarious....johnny depp is probably the most diverse actor of the last 20 years and some of you are pigeonhole-ing him into a couple different roles that he's done. i think he's a fantastic choice

While I agree he is a terrific actor, at the same time he's become a cliche choice for anything since Pirates of the Carribean.. you can find very few people who actually liked him before.

Holy crap. I've loved him since 21 Jump Street, which was airing the year before you were born! There are a tremendous amount of Depp fans from ages before Pirates. He has always been talented and hot.

I watched 21 Jump Street, thank you very much.
I know he's always been a very well liked actor but after Pirates he became everyone's favorite actor. People throw his name out for every role... even when they don't know what the film would be about.

I don't think it will work. Johnny's great but he's no joker. Y'all have to remember it's not just comic book fans going to see this movie. There are people who have never picked up a comic book and the only joker they know is jack. some don't even know him. If Jdepp is joker they're going to associate joker with willy wonka and jack sparrow, not with joker.

I agree with that. What they did with Scarecrow worked very well as an origin story, but after he got spreyed with fear gas and went mad he should have been more dangerous, not less. I really hope he at least makes an appearance in one of the later films.

Most people I've come accross who knew films well had a huge respect for Depp way befor that. My mum, sister and wife all fell in love with him in Don Juan Demarko, and on top of that Edward Scissorhands, Benny and Joon, Gilber Grape, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Ed Wood along with countless others have proven him to be one of the (if not the) best actors of his generation.
True it's a cliche to suggest him for every role, but really there are very few roles (that require a young-middle aged man) that he couldn't play.
If Jdepp is joker they're going to associate joker with willy wonka and jack sparrow, not with joker.
No more than they associate Willy Wonka with Jack Sparrow. Even if they do make the association they'll forget it within two minutes of him being on screen

I don't think anybody could pull off the Joker as well as Jack.
I was really looking forward to Tommy Lee Jones as Harvey. Joel "Dumbass" Shumacher said he was going to give the character a "Phantom of the Opera quality," instead we got a drunk Fred Flintstone quality.
Talia would be a great addition to the series.
