Fasten your seatbelts because on February 28 [at 9PM EST] The Amazing Race takes off again. This season, the reality adventure series returns to tis international format where 11 teams of two people, each with a pre-existing relationship, will travel to exotic locations, spanning five continents. They'll never know where they're going next or what they'll have to do once they get there.

After a lukewarm family edition I'm glad that the show's back to its roots. And that there's a good mix of teams this time. Any early favorites based on the team bios?

So glad that this show is back after the awful family edition!! Can't wait for a real race around the world.

BJ and Tyler looks like a funny team. And could Wanda/Desiree be the new Nancy/Emily??

I finally watched the premiere last night. Pretty good, though the challenges were a bit blah. Sure, the helicopter rides were exciting, but hardly competetive. And the directionless motorcycle assembly was just boring...through I was thoroughly impressed with the two teams who succeeded here.

I think it was pretty obvious early on who'd be eliminated. John and Scott just didn't seem to have much drive. Though I thought for sure the old couple was going to sink fast...just too many stupid mistakes and too much time wasted on their part.

As for early favorites. I found the Flossies to be mildly amusing, and I think Yolanda and Desiree did really well. But at this point I'm rooting for BJ and Tyler (the hippies) and for David and Lori. Glad to have the real Race back!

The Hippies have my vote.

It was a decent show - I agree that the competitions were not terribly competitive and what was up with that roadblock? Was that even a roadblock? I wasn't really paying attention to the explanation and I couldn't figure out what they were doing - just lighting a candle?

Hell - I am just really happy that the Family Edition is done. I read an interview in EW, where the creators admitted it sucked.

OMG, Gert is in The Amazing Race!!!

Teams I like: The Nerds, The Hippies, Rory/Lorelei, Team Mojo (Could that Monica girl be hotter??) and Ray/Yolanda.

I'm glad the worst team was out. Good epoisode, but I agree about the tasks.

The two old women are funny, but the yelling can get old very quickly. I predict their departure in leg 2 or 3.

Judging by old seasons, my predictions are:

final 4:
Eric/Jeremy
Ray/Yolanda
Monica/Joseph
BJ/Tyler

middle of the pack:
Lake/Michelle
Wanda/Desiree
Dave/Lori

last teams:
Dani/Danielle
Fran/Barry
Lisa/Joni

I could be totally wrong here, there's always a wild card.

Edition tells me that Eric/Jeremy and BJ/Tyler will be good friends or big rivals. Double D and the boys WILL flirt. Monica WILL have a breakdown and Lake/Michelle WILL self-destruct a la Jonathan/Victoria.

I hope I'm wrong, though. I like to be surprised.

There hasn't been a Roadblock on the first leg for several seasons now. Don't know why.Probably simply due to the coordination involved. There's already so much to keep track of in the first episode with so many teams.

Any thoughts on where else this season might go, location-wise?

Am I the only one who thinks she would be hot if she just had different hair?

Teams I like: The Nerds, The Hippies, Rory/Lorelei, Team Mojo (Could that Monica girl be hotter??) and Ray/Yolanda.

I refuse to call them Mojo. You do not get to pick your nickname. We get to pick your nickname. (Except for the Double Ds. That nickname stays.) Henceforth, "Mojo" will be Team Jomo.

I'm glad the worst team was out. Good epoisode, but I agree about the tasks.

I'm glad the we're-not-dating gay guys are gone, too. Seeing that genie thing once was one times too many. And like bibby said, they didn't really seem to be into it.

Right now I'm rooting for the Hippies and Revenge of the Nerds. They seem to be having the most fun. Lake and Joseph showed signs of Jonathanism. I'm rooting for their partners to dump them and hook up.

As it turns out, although the Australian networks have apparently ignored the latest "Survivor", we skipped an "Amazing Race" and they're screening the current show here only a few hours after you guys get it, which is cool. Apparently they're coming to Australia sometime this game, so that's pretty.

Wasn't sure about the Hippies at first, but yeah, I want them to win :D.

The Geeks are pretty cool, too. I'll be cheering for them. Oh, and the mother/daughter team -- the mother seemed a little too aggressive, but the daughter looked pretty awesome.

The old couple win points for actually being mean, but lose points for standing within arm's reach of the clue box and not seeing it ( ). I don't doubt their ability, I doubt their eyesight.

Oh, and the two Frat Boys, I like them too. Partly for their sheer honesty ("want to have lots of money, but we don't want to earn it." Good on you boys), and partly for hormones. *growl*

A couple of the teams, you can see the cracks apparently. Lake and his partner (or was Lake the girl?) and the couple who've been dating by distance, I just have a feeling they're gonna entertaining this year.

As for the guys -- "I love him like a brother, and nothing more. We're only lifelong friends." Um, so. Did *anybody* in the known Universe buy that? But that's okay.

marshal99
03-04-2006, 03:59 AM
Lake is too highly strung , he is this season's Jonathan Baker although as noted , he at least is not blaming his partner for not finishing first.(for now)

It will take being an enormous ass to top Jonathan though , that guy is a major prick. Seeing him in that show "Battle of the network reality stars" pretty much reenforce that view , nobody on his team likes him.

I think it's true.

I know plenty of guys I'm friends with, but am not attracted to in the least, and would never think of dating them.

I don't think they were even pretending NOT to be gay (they were calling each other "girl" thruout the entire premiere).

so yeah. . I *do* believe that they are simply friends.

That was a tough Roadblock/Detour combo for the non-physically-gifted teams, at least those who were dumb enough to go for the waterfall climb (hi, Fran and Barry!).

How completely are the hippies and the beach bums kicking the Race's ass so far? In fact, there are a lot of strong-looking teams -- Ray and Yolanda, Monica and Joseph, and Wanda and Desiree have been doing great too.

marshal99
03-08-2006, 12:02 PM
All the teams are quite distinctly mediocre , there is no stand out hence why the likes of the hippies and horny beach bums keep finishing ahead of the pack. Those 2 teams aren't exactly the brightest bulb in the pack but they are fairly competent enough in the tasks that they do that they just stay ahead.

Actually the Hippies are both experienced world travelers who speak several languages; that makes them the team to beat in my book. The Beach Bums are getting by by following the Hippies. Look at the first thing the Bums did this episode: wait for the Hippies so they could follow them. Another advantage both teams have is they're relaxed. Once you start to get hyper, you start to lose.

Fran and Barry are next. Bad choices two episodes in a row on Road Blocks. Once they're gone, it actually starts to get pretty even amongs the teams, physically. Sadly, I don't see the Double Ds lasting long in a mental race. Lake and Michelle aren't going to be there long, either. He's too hyper. If Dave and GertLori can keep up physically, they might go pretty far.

This week really mixed things up placement-wise. Very interesting.

And, yeah, some really bad playing on some of the teams' parts (Lake & Michelle, Wanda & Desiree). The Roadblock and Detours weren't really difficult, yet combined with other mistakes really threw off some teams.

That said, the teams seem much more fun than normal for the most part. I'm really impressed by Fran & Barry. But still rooting for BJ & Tyler.

What exactly impresses you about these two? They havent made a single right decision in three episodes so far. The old teams are supposed to be the smart ones. I'm really liked these 2 in their pre-race interviews but it turns out they're just morons. The pink girls are smarter.

Yeah, forgetting their clues and passports at the roadblock was really smart. :D

Tonight's episode was hilarious. Some of the challenges were just silly, and some of the teams really are all about having fun and have yet to get caught up in any drama.

I know someone had an issue with the Gnome appearing in a previous season, but I don't have a problem with it as it's obvious a means to alleviate production costs.

Wanda and Desiree deserve to be out just because of their stupid mistakes, but Dani and Danielle deserved to be out more for following them. Oh well...I doubt they'll pull out of the bottom...then again next week's preview didn't look good for the resident nerds.

marshal99
03-22-2006, 08:46 AM
The teams are fairly even , i think the horny beach bums and hippies are still the 2 team to beat. The old fogeys will be having problems with physical challenges and will surely fall behind , the pinks making one mistake after another , don't think they can last unless they leech themselves to the beach bums. The nerds seemed fairly competent (at least the guy as he seemed to be the one in charge).

The Hippies and the friends have gone back and forth for first and second, but I could see the friends making a stupid mistake sometime soon and being eliminated. Last episode one of the Hippies was speaking German, so I went on the website today and it said BJ was a Harvard Graduate, both are well travelled and they speak many languages. I thought they might be clowning around too much to take home the million, but now, maybe they are smart enough to win this thing. I hope so.

Anyone noticed how disgusted Phil looked at the friends at the Pit Stop?

I posted about the Hippies being multi-lingual and world travelers a few weeks ago; I think their attitude is exactly the one you need to win. If you take things too seriously, you start to stress about the race, then you try to hurry. That leads to mistakes.

The Hippies look like the type that would say, "Oh, well, we lost. But it was fun."

My co-worker and I were talking about how we think they play the Non-elimination rounds based on who comes in last. If a good team who is well liked comes in last they make it that round...if it was a team like Lake and Michelle who people cannot stand they let it slide.

This nonelimination round was almost mandatory at this point. They've always said there are 3 nonelimination legs. There are 4 teams left. If this was elimination, then the remaining 3 teams would have had 2 instead of the standard 1 non-elimination rounds for the final sprint to the finish line, which I don't really see happening.

It looks like Jay and Yolanda are relaxing in the race a bit now. Maybe it's just the more focus on them since there are only 4 teams left, but this round they seemed to have one of the best attitudes of the teams, taking what came as it came.

Go Hippies and Ray/Yolanda!

A great finale to the season. Three really strong, yet fallible, teams in the end. I'm happy that the hippies won, though I would have been just as happy for Ray and Yolanda. It was such a close race between the hippies and the frat boys that I'm glad it came down to those two teams in the end.

Yeah a great ending, Mom and I really enjoyed it. In our opinion, the Hippies played it as it should be played, always having fun, never letting anything get them down, and just having good fun along the way while not insulting anyone else. (Well not seriously insulting anyone else)

I liked that particular final challenge; up there with the country puzzle from the last race. This one strained their memories and their eyes for details. At first I was thinking if they had been given a country->flag or a flag->country book to help it might've beenbetter, but the 12 flags stand (3 incorrect) worked better at the end.

In any case, a great race, and I can't wait for the next one. :)

Nooooo , the hippies won ? Bloody hippies don't deserve it at all , they are extremely lucky , they finished last TWICE only to be told that it wasn't a elimination round and then that last league had a fast forward which to be frank , gives a unfair advantage. Hippies do not deserve it one bit.
The only team that have been consistent throughout is the frat boys , they have been in and around the top 3 in almost all the rounds.

I only saw the last episode... and throughout those two hours I wanted to apply my baseball bat to the heads of the "frat boys."

BTW - Non-elimination legs are pre-determined before the race even starts - there's no swapping them mid-race just to keep in a team people like. Otherwise, there's instances where they could have swapped legs to keep in a team - like, say, Charla and the Shrew, since people might want to see a vertically-challenged person go all the way.

Loved that the hippies won and the Frats lost.

It pissed me off to no end that the Frats, while in Japan, were doing the tired Kung-Fu dubbing voice thing when those movies were mostly all Chinese. MAYBE had they said they were mocking Godzilla movies, then I would have less hatred for them. God, what idiots.

And that last roadblock was finally a roadblock that I would have been confident going into. I was pretty certain of about 8 of the flags (not knowing the Thai and Middle Eastern flag) though I think that had I actually run the race I would have run across the other two flags sometime... so it would have been just the matter of putting them in the right order.

So I heard they are moving the show to Sundays for the next edition... Call me crazy, but Sunday sounds like a great time for the show... it feels like a Sunday show. I'm excited which is more than I can say about the Amazing Race when the Family Edition ended.

Trust me, after seeing some of the other teams on this race, you would have come to be "ok" if the Frats had won. Once you realize they are just idiots and not outright bad people, it made them more tolerable.

The Hippies were my favorite team though--they did get extremely lucky on the two non-elimination leg things.

How is the Fast Forward unfair? Every team can go for them, once. The Frat Boys won a Fast Forward earlier in the race. Was it unfair then? It's part of the game and you have to plan for stuff like that.

Anyway, I'm glad the Hippies won. They were my non-damn-they're-hot favorite from the start.

And trust me Valmore, I saw almost the entire season and the Frat Boys got increasingly annoying while the Hippies (at least to me) got less annoying. I don't excuse loud and obnoxious ignorance.

Frat Boys is the only team deserving , this is a race , not a popularity contest and the frat boys is the only team that have been consistent throughout the race , was only let down by the final challenge.
The hippies started off well when they are alligned with the frat boys at the beginning , faded off and struggled badly towards the middle , and got lucky break after lucky break and they screwed Mojo.
