Just seen this list on a web site where they ranked the top 20 greatest cartoon characters of all time. Here is how they ranked them.....

1. Bugs Bunny
2. Homer Simpson
3. Fred Flinstone
4. Eric Cartman
5. Daffy Duck
6. Bart Simpson
7. Tom and Jerry
8. Rocky and Bullwinkle
9. Stewie Griffin
10. Donald Duck
11. Mickey Mouse
12. Montgomery Burns
13. Elmer Fudd
14. Peter Griffin
15. Scooby Doo
16. Fat Albert
17. Ren and Stimpy
18. Bobby Hill
19. Fritz the Cat
20. Beavis and Butt-head

Personally I think Mickey Mouse got the shaft, and Bobby Hill has no business on that list. I would have subbed Goofy in there. Anybody ranked too high? Too Low? Anybody that should have been added?

No problems here.

I would put Rocky and Bullwinkle as two separate enties. Same for Ren and Stimpy. And yeah, Mickey and Donald were shortchanged here.

Maybe they should have added a few anime characters, like Goku, Pikachu and Sailor Moon.

I don't think that Mickey and Donald got shorted at all. They're probably the least humorous cartoon characters every created. They're really just money making machines.

Optimus Prime didn't get on, but Bobby Hill did...
I've actually found something that lowered my faith in humanity farther. It hardly seems possible.

I need to lie down.

How did Eric "Fat, Racist Asshole" Cartman and Bobby "About as entertaining as constipation" get on the list, yet Optimus Prime, Droopy, Goofy, and other great characters get the shaft?

Some people have no taste.

It's bad enough Cartman's on the list, but you want Pikachu on there?!

Lists like these never hold any merit whatsoever, it's just someone's opinion.

The newer cartoons always show up with the old one's regardless how good they are compared to the old ones simply because they are new and easy to remember.

True. What site did this come from, anyway?

That said, any list of great cartoon characters (no matter when or by whom it's compiled) that doesn't include the Roadrunner is a complete sham.

Problems:

1. I hate Eric Cartman. He is a racist asswipe.
2. Bobby Hill is a retard.
3. Fritz is a little too kinky to be a cartoon character.
4. I don't like Mickey or Donald or Goofy or anything that came out of Disney. They were made for the sole reason of profit.

So, whoever made this list was on something.

At least they didnt fail to give Bugs Bunny his rightful place at the top of the list. But wheres Mighty Mouse?

Mickey did get the shaft. Mickey should have been #1 or #2. And he's behind Donald who should have also been higher but not ahead of Mickey.

I would have also lumped Homer and Bart together as well as Peter and Stewie. Especially the latter two since Family Guy hasn't been around long enough to warrant two listings. And Montgomery Burns has got no business on a list of top 20.

Optimus who? What are you guys smoking?

Bart and Homer probably deserve their own spots. Each one works on his own and in combination (unlike Beavis and butthead or Tom and Jerry, who only really work as a pair). Although an argument could be made that all characters from ensemble shows (like Simpsons or Family Guy) should fall under one entry. Can't say much about the characters from Family Guy, American Dad, or South Park since I don't watch them. Mickey should be on the list, if only for his icon status (although I agree that as a character he's not particularly interesting). The Roadrunner and Wile E. Coyote are also serious ommisions (esp. since Tom and Jerry made it on). Mighty Mouse and Underdog are also oversights.

I agree with the top 3. Everything else is subjective.

Some of my honorable mentions:

Wile E. Coyote
Droopy
Spongebob Squarepants (for my nephew)
Captain Caaaaaaaaaavemaaaaaaaan!:p

And I think the list is supposed to focus on true humor-oriented cartoon characters, rather than all animated ones (action ones like Prime or GI Joe, for example are of a different genre, although still animated).

I forgot about Roadrunner / Wile E Coyote. Its utter blasphemy that they didn't make the top 5 let alone the top 20.

Peter shouldn't be on the list he's the least funny character on the show. Actually Stewie and Brian are the only characters on that show that I don't outright hate.

And the others were made for? I don't get your comment.

Look at early Walt Disney Cartoons. The creators had just as much love for their artform as anyone else. But in the end all these characters were created to make money. They wouldn't exist otherswise.

You're kidding, right? Homer is MUCH more iconic than Peter, and in the Simpson's prime he was just as funny. Also, he's a much more well-rounded character. Peter is a prick who ocasionally has noble feelings. Homer is a decent person who just makes really stupid decisions.

Stewie Griffin? Was the person on crack at the time he or she wrote this? Family Guy is generally devoid of funny moments, and Stewie is the most boring character of all the boring ensemble on that lame ass show.

Bobby Hill is boring, Beavis & Butthead were lame, and Peter Griffen is a worthless character. Mickey and Donald are famous, but not actually very entertaining. I agree that some of these pairs could have been split, and I would have replaced Fritz the Cat with Itchy and Scratchy. More importantly, there are some great characters missing from this list, like Yosemite Sam, the Tick, and Pinky and the Brain.

Where is the TAS Joker?

Where's Cobra Commander?

Where's Spike Spiegal?

Bugs, Homer, and Fred are where they're supposed to be. Cartman over Daffy Duck or Bart Simpson is just stupid. No Family Guy characters deserve to be there, at least not yet. Bobby Hill doesn't belong on the list. Mickey Mouse deserves to be in the top five on recognition alone. Goofy belongs on the list, as does the Wile E. Coyote/Road Runner combo. Monty Burns is a few places too high.

Fritz the Cat is an underground cartoon from the 70s based on Robert Crumb's work. Overrated IMHO, but it is probably the first adult cartoon, so should get some recognition.

4. Eric Cartman
Way too high on the list.

6. Bart Simpson
I dislike having more than one character from 1 cartoon on any list of best ever. So Burns is also gone. If you want to have some recognition for the great work of the team behind it, put Fry or Bender on it.

8. Rocky and Bullwinkle
Quite popular in America, I guess. Never even seen them on any channel over here.

9. Stewie Griffin
Way too soon to be on a list of Top 20 ever.

13. Elmer Fudd
He's a supporting character in Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck movies. Great character yes, but can't carry a cartoon on his own.

14. Peter Griffin
See Stewie.

15. Scooby Doo
Oh, if you must. Dislike the cartoon

16. Fat Albert
Again completely unknown outside of the US.

18. Bobby Hill
I have no clue who he is.

19. Fritz the Cat
Oh look, somebody is working on his indy-cred.

20. Beavis and Butt-head
Well, I guess their popularity in the early 90s earns them a spot.

Max Fleischer is turning in his grave by the way.

18. Bobby Hill
I have no clue who he is.

Bobby Hill is an annoying blob of a character from a boring show called "King of the Hill". Sadly, the creator of that train-wreck also created "Beavis & Butt-head".

"King of the Hill" revolves around a family of three. The father is a propane-obsessed loser with a narrow urethra. He has no sex life and is a dry and annoying character. The city of Houston, Texas hates him (because Hank hates Houston). His wife is a retared, egostical nutcase. And their son is a fat dimwit who is obsessed with being a comedian. they also have a relative, Louanne Platter. God knows what she is.

The side characters are more intresting. Dale Gribble is a conspiracy theorist, and an exterminator. He is very weak and makes a fool of himself. Bill Deautrive was born to a rich Cajun family, but is shown as a poor, pathetic Army barber, who socializes with everyone because of the never-avoidable lonliness. And you have no clue what Boomhauer is saying.
