Bring in some of the street level heroes to work with him, not wearing his symbol as such, but resources he can call on, perhaps like Onyx, a couple of martial arts backgrounded people, I would bring back Mr Terrific how he was created by Ostrander and have him there, Black Lightning (shame he is a big politician now and everyone knows his face) but that level of hero. Will edit later and add some more names as they occur.

I always though Black Canary should be recognised more as part of the BatFamily. I mean, she even has the flying creature name, like most Batfamily members do. I guess that's what ASB&R is doing now though.

Alan Scott, at least after Crisis merged the earth, resides in Gotham City. While I can understand the writers not wanting to use him (he is after all, VERY powerful and may overshadow the Bat Family) it's doubtful that in certain types of situations, the Bat-Family wouldn't have their next-door neighbor on speed dial on the Bat-Phone, and can be used by skilled writers in moderation.
Someone mentioned Black Canary. She's a classic character with history, and is a worthy addition to the Batman Family. As she's a "costumed athlete," she's a much better fit than Alan Scott.
Does she or does she not have her Canary Cry powers back? I hope so; the Mike Grell story where she was depowered (and possibly raped as well) was very vile.
I hope the upcoming post IC "Batwoman" title is a reference to the possible return of Kathy Kane (and her lipstick darts)! As her present standing in the DCU is something of a gray area, the door is open for her possible return.
How about Bette Kane, the first Bat-Girl? She needs to have her place in Bat-history restored.

Etrigan would make a great addition to the batteam. he lives in gotham.

The Question, but it seems 52/OYL is already doing this.
He already has his connection through Huntress & has encountered Batman & Robin before.

I want Azrael
the goddamn batman
02-22-2006, 10:59 PM
ok, if i had my way....
Alfred
Dick
Jason(still, and always dead)
Tim
and thats it.
Jim Gordon, (isn't family, he's a friend. he doesn't call him bruce, he doesn't come to the cave on poker night, or any of that.)
Barbrah (now with working legs, and not Oracle, remember he is the worlds greatest detective, how much help does he need?)
other supporting characters are great, but only the 4 at the top should know he is Bruce Wayne, and be in the cave, and thats where i concider the "family" line to be drawn.
batgirl, batwoman, huntress and all of the other baggage should be left at the baggage claim!
ok, barbrah having been batgirl, that would be ok to keep, but if it was scrapped, i'd be ok with that too!

Shiva. That's right, I said it.

I'd like Black Canary and Shiva in the family. I also think the Family needs a telepath or any superheroes with mind powers in there.
But given Batman's animosity on anything that has to do with mindwipes, i think this is a longshot. Mawell Lord would have been a good candidate.
The Question, Wildcat and Guy Gardner are my other choices.

It would be fun to see Batman punch out Guy once a month! :evilsmile
I do think Wildcat would be a great addition to the Bat-team.

I totally agree, the whole extended Batman family has got waaay out of hand,I prefer my Batman to work on his own, removing the vast majority of the current "family" would be a huge improvement.Lets face it for most of his career he has coped pretty well without most of these characters

To be honest i hate to burst peoples bubbles but i stopped reading what some people were writing half way. Not to be instulting but Green Lantern (Alan Scott), Green Arrow, Black Canary? For god sakes people Batman has issues with all of them except with Alan. First of all the Bat Family will always be people who are loyal to Batman. Currently the only people in there are
Robin
Nightwing
Batgirl
No one else is gonna be in unless they are approved by Bats. Batman has and still has agents every where such as Onyx and such but they are just outside forces. His core group will always be the Family. And people stop with the ridiculous choices for his family research first

I love the Bat family as is, but the only other DC character I can think of offhand that I like is Kyle/Ion (though he'd probably need a different persona/identity for the Batbooks).

Well, Batman basically has issues with anyone :D Yes, even with Robin, Nightwing and Batgirl in the past. But this did not stop them from being included in the family.

I think only Bruce, Dick, Tim, and Alfred are really the bat-family, now that Cass is seemingly an ex-Batgirl.
Jim Gordon, Babs, and Selina are the other bat-allies who I think of as part of the extended bat-family. I don't really think of the rest of the Birds as being closely associated with Batman anymore at all.
I suppose Jason is also family, too, even if he's estranged family that's an ongoing pain in the ass.

well considering that canary is part of his 'extended extended' family she isn't such a stretch, alan scott? what problems does he have with him, I agree he is a tad too powerful to be part of the regular group, but I can't remember any reason bat would have a problem with him.
I have to completly and utterly disagree with the comment that oracle isn't needed, sure he is the worlds finest detective, but he doesn't have the time, she should actually be incoporated more as his personal CSI unit. plus his primary communicator, I mean while he is fighting at penguins place who is to say a lead doesn't pop up on the police band for a different case across town. Oracle makes his time management work.
I would have liked for Ted Kord to have integrated more into the bat mythos, but unfortunately DC for some reason(giffen) thought kord is a joke character(except when they kill him) I mean Kord was a good foil for batman that both Robin and Nightwing needed to prevent them from descending into darkness.
I like the idea of operatives more than bat family, keep the family a relatively close knit group (bat, robin, nightwing, alfred, oracle and maybe Jim) and then have a larger group of 'non-family' operatives, which would be specialists needed or even just casual acquaintances that seek approval not orders from bats.

It would be fun to see Batman punch out Guy once a month!
Gotham. Rooftops. Guy Gardner is approaching Batman.
Gardner: Okay, why did you call me ...
Batman turns, and decks Gardner in one smooth motion.
Batman: Did you get that?
Green Arrow emerges from hding, holding a professional quality camcorder.
Green Arrow: Yeah, thanks.
Batman: Why did you want me to do that?
Green Arrow: Well, a certain Canary is going to be pretty fired up when she sees this next weekend.
Batman: So I do all the work, and you reap the rewards?
Green Arrow: It looks like, sometimes, capitalism does work.
Ollie jumps off the rooftop.
Batman: (calling) She'll be thinking of me! The whole time!
No response.
Batman: (muttering) Prick.

Bingo!
In my mind Batman is a loner and should always be so.
If I want to read a team book I'll pick up X-Men or Ultimates or even JLA (if there is one).
The Bat-Family should be Batman and Alfred. Maybe Dick. Thats all.

John Constantine!
Tell me that wouldn't be awesome. John as the local mysterious magic guru who occasionally helps out Batman, occasionally clashes with him, and along with Ragman rounds out the supernatural dark side of Gotham.

Since we all new who the allies and enemies are, I'll just write a character that I think DC is goin to try and intergrate into the Bat-verse over the 52 and OYL, and they did during IC and OMAC, and Countdown. BOOSTER GOLD! I think it would be cool to have somebody be part of the Bat-verse that has a little umph to his powers. Plus, it seems like Booster wants to be a good hero a little more, but stay true to the way Giffen wrote him. I think he would be cool to live in Gotham and become part of the Bat-verse.

There are three people I've always wanted added into the BatFamily.
1) Azreal - He and Eradicator were my favorite 90s DC characters. Even though he may have some psychological problems, he could still fit in somehow. I mean, Batman isn't the most sane hero either.
2) The Question - The preview of 52 set this one in stone: This guy MUST be a part of the BatFamily. Either him, Spirit, or the next guy on my list.
3) John Constantine - I've always wondered why are there so many crossovers between Batman and Spawn, or some random hero like that, but none with John. He would fit perfectly in Gotham City. With Crispus (sp?) Allen becoming the Spectre, and magic going haywire, now would be the best time for an arrival from Constantine.
