On February 21, 1986, Japanese NES fans went to the store and saw a new title: The Legend of Zelda. "Oh, what the heck," they probably said, "it doesn't have Mario or Donkey Kong, but maybe it'll be an okay game."
1up.com has an article on the anniversary: http://zelda20th.1up.com/do/feature?pager.offset=0&cId=3148112

Thanks for the link.
The white boy rap commercial was great.

If no one has heard yet, Twilight Princess is now scheduled for this fall.

I've never beaten the alternate adventure in the first game. (I'm ashamed)

I don't remember that one but I do remember this curly haired guy in a black unitard doing interpretive dances of what the monsters were.

Congratulations on 3 timless classic games including legend of zelda, zelda 2 and legend of zelda a link to the past and a bunch of other games that show how badly you can ruin a great franchise with gimicks, poor gameplay and boring storylines.
It may have been around for 20 but the first 10 are all I care about.

Don't feel bad, the 2nd Quest is sadistic.

Hmm... The storyline scenes are sometimes a bit longer than I would like... Ocarina of Time has way too much not-playing-the-game in its first hour of runtime... But that's as close as I can come to being in agreement.

A Link to the Past is kinda overrated. I'd say OOT is better.

I have to say that the old school Zelda games are the best. A link to the past was a great game. lots of action some good puzzles in there for fun. Links awaking on Gb was also a lot of fun. A new story line with a couple new items in ther efor fun.
The newer ones I am not that fond of. The newer on on GBA was just to much puzzle not enough action. I hope the new one is good. the shots I have seen have given me hope.

I wonder if, after New Super Mario Bros. (http://www.gamesarefun.com/news.php?newsid=6106), they'll make a game that recaptures the spirit of the first Zelda game.
