I know Yuen Wo Ping has been mentioned as director before, because it fueled my choice for Shang Chi, but I believe the is the first time Ang Lee has been mentioned as producer.

That said, Donnie Yen would be damn near perfect to play Shang Chi. He's Yuen Wo Ping's protoge, he's a world class theatrical martial artist, he can speak perfect English, he can act, and he's basically played played Bruce Lee before, in a TV version of Fist of Fury, playing Chen Zhen.

My only question is, how will this be any different than your standard kung fu film, though?

I'm thinking mostly that it's been a few years since Wo Ping has done any directing. Mostly action choreography. That, and there'll probably be a bunch of white people in it as sidekicks.

Other than that, there aren't a ton of martial arts flicks where the hero goes after their own father. While obviously they're going to have to change him from Fu Manchu, most kung fu flicks are very respectful to parents. Especially in Yuen Wo Ping stuff. Snake in Eagle's Shadow, Drunken Master, Wing Chung, Iron Monkey, all centered around respect for fathers.

Oh, and apparently it's not Master of Kung Fu, it's The Hands of Shang Chi.
