View Full Version : Cartoon Network has no respect for its more adult shows!

Unless their done on the cheap, robo chicken, birdman ect. I also like these. But the others Like JLA then JLU get terrible time slots 10:30 saturday night? Now repeats and worst of all no advertising.
Remember duck dodgers? A show made for us big kids. You never know what time that was on. 12:am one weak then 12:30 skip a few weeks. it was a very fine show but the network treated it like it was a leper.
now JLU is going by by, Legion of super heroes will be coming on board, but I bet it will be geared to teens and shot in that anime style. Which gets old real fast.

Actually, I think 10:30 is an ideal time slot for JLU, since it's geared more towards an adult audience. I had to record the show previously, now on occasion I can actually catch it. And the last two episodes are new ones... unless you live in Canadia or Britain.
There's not a lot cheap about Robot Chicken or Harvey Birdman... Harvey's changed a lot since the early days, and stop-motion is always expensive.
Now 12oz. Mouse, that's cheap.

I also think 10:30 is perfect for JLU, best for last and all that.
Also, anyone notice that a few weeks ago they took off the ubcut DBZ and put on the pre funimation version, then this week they eliminated it altogehter?
Doesnt surprise me. When DBZ uncut first came on the air I was shocked that they could give it a 10:30 timeslot. So I knew for sure it wouldnt fly at 7:30.
Should have put BoBoBo on at 7:00 and move DBZ uncut to 10.

If legion is going to be in the anime style, wouldnt it basically be Teen Titans? That would be stupid on the part of CN, because people would be confused which one was which.
Also, when does the Legion show start? This is the first Ive heard of it.
I too am dissapointed by the way they treated Duck Dodgers.
And the cheapest looking show on CN has to be the Boondocks.

IIRC, the Leigon cartoon will feature people from the creative teams of both Teen Titans AND JLU, so it will probably be a middle ground between the two.

I saw bits of Duck Dodgers on occasion since it aired before Gundam Seed :p Hated it, though. The "humor" seems to center on Dodgers being an ass, which just leaves me frustrated I can't reach through the screen and throttle him.

What? Have you seen how beautifully animated some of these episodes are? I'm not even a big fan of the show, and I still gotta admit, it's purty.
The only thing I wish they did about JLU was repeat it. I remember when it used to be on the following SUnday at five or so. That was sweet.

Currently, the only toons I like on CN are JLU and Ben 10. I miss Samuari Jack and Duck Dodgers alot though! Also loved Star Wars: the Clone Wars!
Ok, I do like Futurama and Family Guy...but man..I've seen those reruns how many times now? lol.
I tried to get into Teen Titans, but its very so-so (hope Legion isn't done in that style..). Can't stand their orignal 'anime' stuff or the cheap looking stuff like Robo Chicken, etc.
Wish they'd do more toons like JLU, Ben 10, Samuari Jack, the Clone Wars and Duck Dodgers. Excellent toons and really what CN should be doing imo.

Who would have thought, cartoons made for children do better than cartoons made for adults.

I have to admit, I'm hard pressed to figure out what makes Justice League Unlimited so "adult".
Because people actually get killed?

Because there are no funny talking animals or kid sidekicks. And occasionally they almost say dirty words. Although I think they might actually do it occasionally in Canada.
That, and sometimes the sexual content is a little thick for, say, a Saturday morning show.

I've seen tons of 'em, and Boondocks still looks good as hell. Nobody said it was the highest-budget show out there but saying it looks cheap is just ridiculous

I spoke with two expert critics (my kids) and they both agree that JLU should be on late after they are in bed. They represent the primary intended viewing audience of CN and both indicated they would rather see Ed, Ed, and Eddy or cartoons like that than ones like JLU which both could care less about.
Both also expressed their desire that CN bring Powerpuff Girls, Dexter, and Courage back with new episodes and prime viewing slots.

That's one of things.
But the stories in and of themselves are more mature than most kid-related shows. Things didn't get resolved easily(It took nearly two seasons for Wonder Woman to get close to forgiving Hawkgirl over Starcrossed), the heroes weren't automatically trusted(last season, if you remember, was about a government conspiracy), and the stories overall were serious in places a kid-oriented show would not.

Hey 10:30 Sat night is actually pretty good, you either just get home in time to see it, or your able to stay home to watch it before you go out, its perfect.I agree since I'm usually busy on Saturdays, and 10:30 is late enough that I can watch it without many disruptions. Plus, I've been watching since its 1st season, so I'm used to it being on around that time.
As to where the maturity is, it's written and acted in a way that's not completely kiddie-fied; it feels like an animated drama more than the typical action cartoons I watched. I can watch it without feeling like an idiot.

I love smug condescending comments regarding taste in cartoons, don't you?
Saying that The Boondocks is the "cheapest looking" animated series on Cartoon Network when it's on a programming block that has shows that are made with limited animation, sometimes doing nothing but reusing stock footage is just kind of silly.

Just found out JLU was showing new episode..and only because of the net
It been Zero Adventisment...they rarely show repeates...but they show tons of Advertisment of naruto and Ace Ventura
Why..I can see maybe Anime make more money. But they all ready paid for JLU why not least tell when it going to be on
Why move it to 10:30 it Aint THAT adult. Really not any more Adult then the old Batman cartoon. I mean heck they had Joker bathed in Blood and licking his fingers in the recent THE BATMAN vs Dracula. How is JLU worst. Or least so more repeats when it not on so we can catch episode...because lord knows thier taking thier sweet time on the DVD. They use to show it twice on the weekends so you can catch..but ahhh no. Got to see the Land before time part 50
I dont get it. Insnt it a popular show. Why make it HARD for the fans to catch it.

I still say Boondocks is a poor quality show and is way over-rated, but I guess "cheapest" is a bit over the top.

It's not a matter of offense, it's just that we're not seeing how you can say something like the Huey vs. Riley fight, the Convenience Store Robbery/Iraq War, Huey vs. Blind Nigga Samurai, and Granddad vs. Stinkmeaner is badly animated. Badly animated compared to what, exactly? Appleseed?

The boondocks IMO is just like any other anime/anime-inspired cartoons out now. Its very bad animation speckled with moments of coolness. They do a similar thing in shows like Teen Titans and Full Metal Alchemist. Its static all the way through because they spend the entire budget on a few seconds of cool animation. The problem is that on Boondocks it looks like its intentional, like the creators said "Hey, lets do it in an anime style, but lets not try to hard."

The crappest show right now is 12 Oucne Mouse.
I mean, South Park has better plots. (Making fun of media things.) and well even better animation.. (As you can tell when they move or talk.)
12 O Mouse is into Random Crap (Which is cool in Aqua Teen, as Presented beter.) But 12 ounce is Stupid, piss poor in looks, and absolutely no point what so ever.
If anything. Save JLU. As it is worthy!

See I dont think it is.
It has one joke. The whole "angry black man" in an 8 year old's body. Thats the entire premise to the show. Its not clever. It rides on the shock factor of "showing the white man the truth", and its just irritating after a while. Thats not to say it never has any funny moments, but it just leaves so much to be desired.
Also, there is no consistency in the animation. Like i said before, it has very stiff characters, with bits of actual animation every now and then. This show has the opportunity to really improve upon that psudeo-anime style and it just brushes it off. The show is a dissapointment.

Have you ever read the Boondocks comic strip? I think it's a little more enjoyable in that format, sorta the way an SNL sketch is before its stretched into a 90 minute movie.

That's all you see in the Boondocks? Storywise? You're kidding right? Have you watched the MLK episode? The Gangstalicious episode, The Oprah Kidnap episode? Because if all you see is "angry black man teaching the white man", you're only looking at the surface.
On the animation, really if they get a bigger budget maybe. As is though, I've heard they're outsourcing quite a bit of it already.

Those two white guys were so fuckin retarded. Plus, the leader white guy (I thought he was white anyways), was being voiced by Samuel Jackson. That only added to the awesomeness of the episode. :D

Yeah Gin Rummy is white, it's been suggested that he's based off of Donald Rumsfeld (the glasses are the same) with Wuncler the III's frame of reference being George W.
The XBox Killer episode has a whole lot of Iraq war analogues in it of which these two were in and Rummy was introduced.

Probably because their "adult" shows don't draw in the right demographics for advertisers. I'm pretty sure most of the Cartoon Networks money generated from advertising comes from toy and candy companies.

Justice Leage, and the anime that is put on that channel does get alot of ratings.Cartoon Network decided to take advantage of this by putting their own shows into time slots before,or after the anime. If i am guessing right, the US timezones..the anime was on for a time at 11:00 and 11:30 PM,a great time to see anime. But this great hour was then put with CN`s own shows,so anime is pushed to Midnight or later. Its all a ego stunt, which CN has now.

No, that's just Huey. And a chariacture, at that. Boondocks, as a whole, pokes at both race relations(on both sides), and mainstream Black culture. BET in particular. It also throws in a little politics as well.
For Example:
The Trial of R. Kelly -- Pokes fun at the way most black people have been quick to assume the innocence(and a frame-up) of a black celebrity whenever one gets arrested.
The Story of Gangstaliscious -- Casts a critical eye on the adoration of Gangsta rappers.
Granddad's fight -- Dealing with anger and jerkoffs who provoke you.
Return of the King -- McGruder goes off on the entirety of Black culture's problems.
The Itis -- Criticizes the heathiness of "traditional" black foods.
A Date with the Health Inspector -- Commentary on the Iraq War and the War on Terror.
