While I am not one to turn my nose up at fresh fruit, I must say that no fruit is better than a nice juicy pear.

That said, a ripe banana is very tasty. A friend of mine is a big fan of green bananas, so they aren't as sweet. I will never understand that, but to each his own.

I'll tell you what is good. A few years ago, Jiff used to make this "Chocolate Silk" peanut butter that was awful for you but tasted great. I used to dip bananas in that, and it was one hell of a snack.

When I was a kid there was this huge pear tree in the neighbor's yard. It always had these huge, super juicy pears. The best thing was the neighbor's were an older couple who didn't mind in the slightest that every kid in the neighborhood would line up at the fence and send one over it to get an armload of pears regularly.

My grandmother made the absolute best pear preserves. Served up on a hot biscut with melted butter... mmm-MM!!! Her daughters, sons' wives, and grandaughters have been trying for decades to re-create her recipe, but they don't even come close because Mamaw Burcham made her pear preserves with

As I'm really allergic to apples, pears make a great substitute in cooking and snacking. The famous Harry and David pear orchards are here in this state, as well.

Yum.

I gotta get Karl Kesel's recipe for his pear cake.

I’m sorry to hear that. With apples in so many ingredients it probably really easy to accidentally ingest the fruit.
