If surgery can cure a mental disorder, then perhaps our defination of what exactly a mental disorder is needs to be updated! :eek:
what mental disorder can plastic surgery cure? Gender identity disorder, as identified by psychologists and medical doctors, is a condition with which a person who has been assigned one gender (usually at birth on the basis of their sex, but compare intersexual), but identifies as belonging to another gender, or does not conform with the gender role their respective society prescribes to them. It is a psychiatric term for what is widely known by terms like transsexuality, transgender and (subject to debate, but full-fledged GID is present in at least some cases) transvestism or cross-dressing

Maybe the current edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-IV) needs to be updated!
These mental illness diagnoses are also enshrined in the HBIGDA-SOCs; they persist because no other medical diagnoses are available. I find this incredibly stupid & it MAKES ME DAMN ANGRY!!!!!!!!!! :mad:
