I never was big into anime. I mean I like the staples like (except that release of akira on dvd, F that crap dub job!) ninja scroll, fist north star, angel cop and such.

At any rate the horror ones are my favorite. Devilman is the best and I wish I could find more like it.

Any suggestions?

Far as horror anime goes I have the dvds of.

Devilman.
Demon city shinjuku.
Urotsukodoji.
Vampire hunter d.

Try Biohunter from Urban Vision. It's by Yoshiaki Kawajiri, Mr. Ninja Scroll himself and animated by Madhouse.

Or Wicked City, but beware of the Spiderwoman!

Cyber City Oedo 808. 16 years old and the animation still holds up very well. I love the dark futuristic atmosphere of this one. You get vamps, high tech haunted buildings, and Frankenstein-ish monsters! Directed by Kawajiri and animated by Madhouse.

Perfect Blue. Good psychological thriller.

Others:

Devil Lady TV series
Twilight of the Dark Master
Vampire Wars
Nightwalker
Psychic Wars
Blood: The Last Vampire
Dark Myth
Judge
Mermaid Forest
Doomed Megalopolis
Psycho Diver
Pet Shop of Horrors

Some of the above aren't too gory and are more psychological, but all should classify as horror.

The above are some great recommendations!
I'll add:

If you don't mind a convoluted plot. Try Boogie Pop Phantom. I would recommend watching it all the way through 2-3 times though. It's not easy, but it is pretty awesome once it all clicks into place. I am a huge devilman fan as well. If you dig X-files at all I liked Witch hunter Robin a lot. It's really slow to start, but really pulls out the stops halfway through the series. If you liked overfiend you might dig necromicon, and perhaps Demon warrior Koji. I'm not a big hentai fan, but I remember those having some cool elements, if you get past the usual hentai stuff. I'll have to peruse my collection and the net, I feel like I've skipped something. I'll post later if I remember.

Oh, and if you really want gore or extreme violence and don't mind an unfinished series, give Ninja Ressurection a try. lol.

I think ADV Films tried to cash in on the popularity of Ninja Scroll. Tried to make it seem like it was a sequel, when in fact it wasn't. They even tried to change the fonts of the title similar to that of Scroll's cover box art. The only thing both Ressurection and Scroll have in common are the first names of the lead, which is Jubei.

Most of the horror titles have been mentioned.

I thought Witch Hunter Robin had elements of horror and it's spook moments. However, I'd classify it as a suspense/thriller.

Perfect Blue is really good, and worth checking out.

Memories is written by Katsuhiro Otomu, creator of Akira. Mermories consists of three short films in the vien of The Outer Limits or Twighlight Zone.

Hmmm...

Lain maybe. It's weird sci fi cyberpunk exestentialism, but it really gets under your skin. Hell, I was freaking out in the back of my Anime Club watching it. Seriously. I remember I walked up once behind my roomate one time soon after the he saw it and he got totally spooked because it reminded him of this weird scene with an alien at a door. I saw it and it was damn freakly and still doesn't make a lick of scene.

Boogiepop Phantom is a pretty awesome multi layer horror anime which might take you multiple viewings to fully understand it all. Great series.

Petshop of horrors is great and enjoyable. Dark and twilight zone-ish with the different stories all linked to the petshop in chinatown.

I forgot, whats OVM mean?

I was on ebay looking at devilman stuff and I have the first two devilmans on dvd and I saw another one and all the auction said it was OVM I think it was. I got it anyway since I liked DM so much.

^You mean OVA? Original Video Animation, alternatively OAV--Original Animation Video. Essentially their term for a direct to video release; they tend to be shorter series than a TV series and have a higher production value and longer production time.

As for recommendations for horror Anime, you definately have to try 100 Stories, which was released in America as Requiem from the Darkness.

Oh Yeah. I still double over in massive amounts of phantom pain at that scene.

Vampire Princess Miyu OVA is good stuff http://www.animeigo.com
TokyoPop released the TV version, which is great, but not as good as the OVA.

No horror anime fan should be without Elfen Lied

A great four volume series, sorta like X-men but a great deal bloodier and creepier.

Mushishi is a great new fantasy horror with some creepy moments, and though I wouldn't put it in the same category as a Devilman, it's one to keep on your radar.

Oh, and Pet Shop of Horrors is a great pick. The mermaid segment is my fav of the episodes.

I liked the Petshop of Horrors manga better than the anime.

Would Petite Cossette count as a horror anime ?
I'm trying to look for it.

Berserk is pretty good but the supernatural horror stuff doesn't occur until the closing of the anime.

I'd look on Omanga.net for some horror mangas, though I don't know if any of those mangas have been turned into anime or not.

Though I didn't like it enough to recommend it personally, I'd certainly consider it horror.
