I have watched the first two movies today (and if you talk about the third please use spoiler tags for my sake? Just until I get the third movie tomorrow or Monday, sorries).

Very bloody stuff, I didn't even know they made bloody movies like that back then. :D

I expected what happened at the end, with him sucked back in time, I mean, they show a picture of a chainsaw wielding guy who fell from the sky, and when they said the spell rupture time and space....well, it was obvious what would happen.

I just love how cool Ash is. Great acting, especially with the hand scene where he fought his hand.

I'm embarrased to love the cheesiness of this series, but it really was fun. :D

The first sequel really is literally a remake of the first Evil Dead. Originally, there was no trilogy theme to the movie because Ashe died at the end of the original Evil Dead.

I know, but it's called a trilogy by Sam Raimi, so...

And plus, I think everyone died in the first movie.

the third one is so damn funny, i can see it over and over again.

To bad it was never followed up, the first one don't really makes anything for me because the tried to make that a serious horror movie, i don't that have so much with the others to do.

It's probably to late to make an 4th one :(

Make sure you pick a edition that has the alternate ending for three. Trust me it truly is a alternate ending and not that crap in other films where its the same ending from a different camera angle or cut a little shorter. And its actually good.

I really liked the first two and love Army of Darkness.

I liked the first two only, but the second moreso.

The hand fight was fun to watch, and that underground celler lady freaked me out when I saw it as a kid.

I'm not 100% sure, but that was Ted Raimi right? I think they put him in a fatty costume with all that makeup effects.

Yep, he's Sam's brother. He was also in the Spidey films remember? It's good to get hooked up. lol

Brothers.

Fantastic movies. Evil Dead II is probably my favourite.

Really? Coolness. I see him listed as playing "Hoffman", but can't remember who that is.

And why was ED2 rated X originally before being rerated as R (according to IMDB)? Because of gore?

I could see ED1 being listed X, if any of them were, because of the whole...um...interesting forest scene.

From IMDB: "Originally when Bobbie Joe gets killed, the vines pull her legs apart and she's split in half like a wishbone when she gets rammed with a tree between her legs. It was cut out in order to obtain the R-rating."

From Wikipedia:
There is some question as to whether the film is a sequel or a remake, since the first film ends with Ash (Campbell) apparently being run down by the invisible demon which killed all the other characters in the first film. However, after the recap at the beginning (which condenses the story to include only Ash and Linda, the only two characters from the first film important to the story of the sequel) Ash is hit by the same invisible force and the story continues from there.

Differences between the recap and the actual events of the first movie are mainly attributed to Raimi's inability to obtain footage from the first movie due to the rights being owned by several different companies in different worldwide territories. Following that, he decided to take a few creative licences with the story to help the flow of the plot. This is the film which introduces the famous chainsaw attached to Ash's arm.

Really? Coolness. I see him listed as playing "Hoffman", but can't remember who that is.

He played Jonah Jameson's assistant and popped his head in whenever they'd have the Jonah and Robbie Robertson scenes. The role was pretty brief.

just an interesting tidbit, FYI

in part III, keep an eye out for the "witch in the well"

under all that makeup is stuntwoman Patricia Tallman (the actress who starred in the remake of "Night of the Living Dead". . but is best known as Telepath Lyta Alexander from Babylon 5 !

Poor Ted. If you check out the special features on the ED2 disc, getting into and then wearing that fat suit all day was absolutly brutal. The scene near the end when the hag flies out of the cellar, you can see where the suit split open in the back. Sam, of course, tortured the hell out of his little brother by having him spin on those wires for quite a while. Sam tortures all his actors though, or at least the ones he grew up with. Ninety-nine percent of the stuff that hit Bruce Campbell in the face during the movie was thrown or swung by Sam Raimi :p

Just go pick up Bruce Cambpell's book "If Chins Could Kill" to read many wonderful things about the Evil Dead trilogy. There's still talk about making number 4. Everyone seems to be wanting to make it but Sam is busy making those Spidey movies.

Like so many movies today, Evil Dead does not warrant a remake, although Raimi will get a nice paycheck out of the deal.

True, a remake isn't necessary, but at least Raimi is involved and essentially still has final say as executive producer. It could be interesting to see what some new hotshot director can do with the old material and a big budget this time.

No, it's not. If you watch Evil Dead II again, the first 6-7 minutes is a very abbreviated version of the first movie, eliminating the characters that aren't Ash and Linda, etc. At the end of that, we see the ending of the first movie with the coming of the new day and Ash suffers the exact fate as in the first and it continues straight from there with absolutely no repeated events after that point.

That's dated November 17th 2004. A lot can change in a year's time. Got anything more recent?

Evil Dead I - pure horror , no comedy
Evil Dead II - 60 percent horror , 40 percent comedy
Army of Darkness - 5 percent horror , 95 percent comedy

They shifted the tone of the series from horror to dark comedy. By the time of Army of Darkness , it became a full blown horror comedy complete with 3 stooges gag. :D

Same idea. The beginning Evil Dead II remakes Evil Dead.

For that matter, Army of Darkness starts out with a recap of both, and different again! Bridget Fonda didn't play Linda in either of the other movies. For that matter, the ending of Evil Dead II with what happens right after Ash goes through the portal is different from how Army of Darkness starts.

Wow, now that was an awesome movie. Not sure why they switched from horror/survival to adventure/horror, but it was an improvement to be sure.

Great lines. This is my boom stick. lol

And what the hell is this (http://www.cinescape.com/0/editorial.asp?aff_id=0&obj_id=42337&this_cat=Movies%3C/span%3E)?

Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash? How wierd is that...?

That's old news , they are not doing that anymore.

Friday the 13th is going to continue with its 11th installment and well , as can be seen on this thread , Sam Raimi will be doing a remake of Evil Dead as and when he got the time to do it.

Original numbering until Friday part VIII (Jason Takes Manhattan). . .

Not really. I mean, the quote I was refuting was "The first sequel really is literally a remake of the first Evil Dead." (emphasis mine)

That's not the same as noting that there's a six minute rehash of the skeleton of the first movie in the beginning at all. And if that had been the intended the meaning then indeed the second sequel would likewise would really be literally a remake of the first two movies, as you note.

There have been 2 comics mini-series following on directly from the events of Army of Darkness (Ashes 2 Ashes & Shop 'til you Drop Dead) and an ongoing series (http://www.comicbookresources.com/news/newsitem.cgi?id=6709) from Dynamite Entertainment.
