Yes , I am telling the truth; Tonight, Telemundo will air the US Spanish-language broadcast premiere of the 1994 Jean-Claude Van Damme cult-classic "STREET FIGHTER"; a film that was significant for being the final film of the late, great Raul Julia's career; The film was an attempt to remake the classic "STREET FIGHTER II" cast into some sort of "GI-JOE"-style context: RYU & KEN were a pair of street-smart down-on-their-luck hustlers (Also, the movie KEN bore an odd resemblance to Conan O'Brian!); E. HONDA was a Hawaiian sumo wrestler (Holy shades of HULA-HULA from the late-1970s/early-1980s PLASTIC MAN animated series); BLANKA was retconned into Guile's army buddy Charlie; CHUN-LI was a television news reporter for a CNN-like cable channel; ZANGIEF became some sort of a Big Moose knock-off; DHALISIM was an ultra-weak scientist with hair called Dr. DHALSIM; T. HAWK was a Cherokee ; DEE JAY was reduced to a negative black stereotype; CAMMY was a hyper-theighs locomotion chick; BALROG was Chun-Li's dependable cameraman; VEGA was Sagat's stooge; SAGAT was some sort of Al Capone wannabe; & M. BISON was some sort of Adolf Hitler wannabe!

Even though the film failed to find success in the box-office; there were a few movie tie-ins: Incredible Technologies/Strata did a digitized STREET FIGHTER game based on the movie; Upper Deck did a STREET FIGHTER card set based on the movie ; There was even a comic book adaptation of the movie published by... DC Comics!

Next Saturday, Telemundo will air a Spanish-language version of another Van Damme cult-classic: HARD TARGET!!!!!

Here are the closing words of Buzz Dixon: The only thing better than a good bad US film is a good bad US film in a language that most of the original actors never even speak like Spanish!!!!!!!
