did anyone pick up this brian wood gem? i am a little biased as i am down with all of woods stuff, but this looks to be pretty interesting. not as strong a start as his past work but i am looking forward to the future issues. a futuristic, anti big business, suspense run as only wood can do. the colors of this issue really make it stand out and add to the futuristic feeling. any thoughts?

I love Brian Wood's books but eh this didn't do too much for me. Though it's the intro issue I'm gonna wait til the next one and reread the two together see if it meshes better.

Anyone else still on this train? I just read 1-3 together, and I really really really like it. And Kristian's art is PERFECT! Can't wait to see him on DMZ. It was dumb of me not to have this on my pull list earlier... I'm definitely adding it this week.

I thought the initial setup was a little farfetched and Pella's actions (reactions) to the story were a little unbelievable. As the story moves, however, the characters are definitely becoming a little more real and believable.

And I'm really digging the dialogue and setting. The Yakuza/Porn thing is actually the least interesting bit of the book.

The book is supposed to be more along the lines of his Couriers Graphic Novel series or Pounded where it's less serious in setup and believeability. After the secound issue I was more into it, definatly waiting for the last issue. But well it is a Brian Wood comic, and they always rock!

funny. :) That's exactly what he told me when I posted about the series in on his livejournal...

I can definitely see the comparisson... but, so far, I think Supermarket is far superior to The Courriers

I'm loving the balance of silliness and serious commentary on this. Anyone know when #4 is out?

Anyone know if the trade is still scheduled for October? Amazon lists the release date as this Wednesday, but it's not on the expected releases for this week (http://www.diamondcomics.com/shipping/expected_102506.txt).

i would've really liked the mini, but the ending just didn't do it for me.... at all

The whole mini felt like the story was just barely getting started. I liked it, but it's not Brian Wood's best. Kristian's art helped it out immensley, for me anyway, and I was scanning every panel, appreciating what he was contributing.

Should there ever be another Supermarket mini, I'll probably pick it up. If Kristian's not on it, however, it'll be a harder sell for me.

I really enjoyed the mini, but yeah, the ending wasn't so hot - it felt rushed, like it needed another two issues. Wood spent the first two issues setting everything up, then had to wrap it all up too quickly. After the first two, I thought it was going to be one of my favourite reads of the year, but instead it was "just" a very good story with some gorgeous art. A few notches below Local for "Best Wood of the Year."

(I'm 99% sure Kristian is a "he".)

Kristian Donaldson's official site (http://www.prodigalnine.com), some nice art to check out there.

i agree that the ending to this series left a little to be desired, but overall i really enjoyed it. the best part for me was kristian's art and in particular, the coloring. i hope he continues to get more notable.

Picked it up, enjoyed it quite a lot. Felt rushed (4 issues only?), but I definitely recommend it to anyone on the fence.
