I like John Stewart, but I don't like what they've been doing with his eyes lately. They've been all white, and there's no reason for that. They do that with Batman sometimes, which has at least been explained by some sort of special lenses in his cowl.

I liked Malcolm King, the telekinetic in the original Stormwatch and later the Monarchy. He was a pretty awesome character so of course they had to remove him from the universe.

I don't have much of an opinion of the street-levelers, like Vixen and Onyx. They exist, but not much to say.

I'd like the A-list black heroes (Steel, Green Lantern-John Stewart) to get more lines when they appear in team books. This is a problem for DC in general which tends to focus its dialogue on the BIG THREE ICONS.

By the way, my dad mentions that for him growing up, Martian Manhunter was sort of the Black superhero in the JLA. It was sort of like a tacit understanding because the comics industry was too scared to put a real dark skinnned hero in the roster.

Firestorm is still one of my favorite books. Black or white or whatever I love Jason Rusch.

Hmm. Not a lot of big names there. I like a lot of the heroes listed, though, especially Black Lightning and Mr. Terrific.

I used to read Black Lighning when he appeared monthly in Batman and the Outsiders (later changed to the Outsiders). I thought he was great.

I read JSA also, so i like Jakeem and Mr. Terrific.

Love John Stewart. I wish more black heroes got really prominent roles. I mean, reading crisis has anything important been done by a black character? I mean, I understand there are a lot less of them and all but where are they in all of this?
I think a problem with black characters is that writers are afraid to write them. It's whenever you see a black hero in the forefront of abook you're just expecting some socially concious story. And writers are almost afraid to write things in for them because it'll seem like stereotyping. It's this big catch-22 they're stuck in until people decide to just write them like they'd write anyone else.
as a black kid growing up loving comics it always sucked whenever we'd role play and the jackass other kids would be like "you can't be batman you're black." At age 6 I didn't even know there were black super heroes. Yes I could identify with batman and green arrow and the flash but those were a bunch of rich white guys that I couldn't empathise with. That's why I absolutely fell in love with john stewart first time I saw him. I was sick of playing as black panther and luke cage. Finally I could be the most powerful kid on the block and the uppity white kids I lived near couldn't say crap about it. Now at age 19 the uppity rich white blowhard left wing psycho green arrow is my favourite of DC heroes but my heart always has a love for john stewart that I'll never have for any other hero. I know there were other black heroes at the time but you gotta realize that my comic book funds were limited. Living on a farm you don't get out much and when you get to the comic book store you're not going to say "hey any books with black guys in it?" You just go in for the cool stuff that you like. y'know x-men, batman, hero for hire. no one tells you there are actually useful black characters when you're six. I know that's a long disjointed read with a lot of holes but I had to say it; just had to get that off my chest.

I'd like to see Cyborg as one of the main JLA characters. I think he's earned his dues.

And I'm real excited about The Spectre (Crispus Allen). I wasn't expecting it, and it was a nice suprise.

Isn't this a place to mention Static, and Icon, and Rocket, and all the Milestone heroes?

Go Static, yeah Icon and Rocket!

Where are ya; we need ya!

Steel from New Frontier rocks.

I wish someone would go back and re-use some of the old Milestone characters, a lot of them had great potential.

Although they weren't actually heroes, I really liked the Blood Syndicate. I wish something would be done with them again.

Computo II (Danielle Foccart of the Legion)

I knew I was forgetting somebody(legionnaires) when I posted!

Also, arguably, Catspaw.

I belive that Cyborg was portrayed rather good in the Teen Titans cartoon,i think that was a good move.

I also liked John Stewart in Justice League, but as a previous poster said. The eyes..that could be reconed, regular colored would be decent.
