View Full Version : New X-Men - Worth Adding?

I was debating whether to add New X-Men to my ongoing series pull list. There are only a couple Earth 616 ongoing titles not on my list, and New X-Men happens to be one of them. I usually avoid teen type titles like Youn Avengers, Teen Titans, and New X-Men. Since I'm just getting back into comics, I think part of it is trying to grasp a whole set of new characters I am totally unfamilier with, and I am pretty familier with all of the characters other than the New X-Men and Young Avengers. What I don't want to have happen is not reading the title and having these unknown characters pop up in other titles I am collecting, and me have no idea what someone is talking about. Avoiding that is one of the reasons why I have so many on my list now. So is the title A) pretty imortant in the grand scheme of things in the X world and Marvel Universe in general? B) written well with good stroies? C) full of interesting characters? Let me know your opinions. Thanks.

A) YES
B) YES
C) YES
Seriously, it is a really well written and drawn book, especially since the new creative team came on board.

I'd say no. Nothing EVER happens! It's like Degrassi with mutants, except less interesting.

I think this has changed since the new team though....it was VERY boring before the creative change.

Personally, I love the title. It's one of the ones I most look forward to reading. The characters are interesting, although I'm not nuts about the current line-up.

If you look at the previews and interviews of the nearby future, my answer would be YES. I picked it up again since HoM and it has improved very much.
I like it a lot more now the team has changed!

I buy two of them every month, it's that good.

I like it, it's absolutely a good read and I'd recommend it... but if you're considering a young superhero book and you only have enough money for one, buy a back issue of Young Justice every month instead. Seriously, you can thank me later.

I'll be the first to say I don't like it. I've yet to be impressed with the new creative team as I'm caring a little less about the characters. The art's okay with some great colors IMO, but the pencils aren't really my thing.
I think you should at least try it out if you'd like it though.

It's a very good book, I highly recommend it. It was very angsty and dramatic before the new team, but pre-HoM, it still is kind of dramatic, but these kids are thrown into a harsher, broader light now, and I believe it's officially been said that the students are going to become real players in the Marvel Universe.
Check out the trades (not necessarily buy) and issues on the stands. It's a fun read.

Give it a try ! I liked the previous creative Team , but i'm also liking the new one .
And read that interview giving headlights about the current team's intention , if your not afraid of possibly big spoilers :
http://www.newsarama.com/marvelnew/NewXmen/23/KyleYostCall.htm
Again reiterating how they’re looking to bring the mutant kids more squarely into the Marvel Universe, Yost explained that it’s been their goal all along to have the New X-Men seen in the same light as the New Mutants were back in their heyday. “Spider-Man would always run into the New Mutants, New Mutants would show up in Uncanny, and they were even in Secret Wars II for a bit,” Yost said. “Not that we want them to be in Secret Wars II, but our goal is to make these kids a part of the greater Marvel Universe, and as this year-long arc goes on, you’re going to be seeing more and more of that.”
Kyle: “And it is a change of pace for us. We’ve done lot of animation work together, but we’re still very young in the comic book business, and it’s been a real switching of gears for us to come into a comic book and pick up where the last creative team left off, and keep the current readers happy while bringing in new readers. What Chris said is absolutely right – we want to make this the New Mutants of now, and have people who read this title look to them in the future as the characters they’re really fond of. For us, it’s really the time to define who they are, and give people reasons to really love them.”

Yes, buy issues 20-22 and pick it up at issue 23. It's freakin awesome. Issues 1-15 is pretty skippable, but issues 16-19 are actually quite good.
I actually really like the book and have since the beginning. Great characters, good stories and consistant art.... over all make for a fun read. It ranks up there with my fave titles each month

Whoa...those are some pretty preview images (though Indra looks silly IMO).

A matter of taste, I like Indra's rhino look a lot!

Oh and btw, speaking of teen hero titles, I highly reccomend Runaways and Young Avengers.

Heavily seconded !!
I had a weakness for Young avengers , but Runaways is as good , and both kick New Xmen's ass , weither under Nunzio or Yost (and yet its still great)
I buy two of them every month, it's that good.
Cut that out. McKeever and Slott are the only ones allowed to shamelessl self-promote. If you write an X-Men comic, you're only allowed to defend yourself from continuity nitpicks and people who hate Cyclops/Gambit/Wolverine/X-23/insert character name. :p
But, yep, I like it. I'll admit that it's low on my "must-read" pile, but I never regret buying it.

Shouldn't you gat them for free from marvel ???
Any way if you don't like teen books at least try and buy one issue of New X Men and Runaways, just in case you might like it.
