okey doke, don't know if this is the right place for this thread, but seeing as it is a DC property now.... i put it here....
um, so i want to get back into the elfquest series, but i don't know how it has been reorganized with the dc release...
in the "original" series i read up to book "8a"... i'd like to start reading at whatever the equivilant of "8b" is, if it exists in the new DC release...
ALSO, on a slightly different but related topic, what is the deal with new elfquest comics? Are they a continuation of the story, or something totally new, or what?

The new books that elfquest have put out since they have been with DC are a contination of the original stories. The new mini series has to do with the Wolfriders and their allies finally metting the last of the "lost tribes" of elves the aquaticelves the Wavedancers.
So far the only new Elfquest stuff DC has put out have been the Searcher and Sword trade and the new Elfquest: The Discovery mini series. Only other things they have done is reprint the first stories in both Archive edtions and pocket size books. None of the stuff you are looking for has been redone by DC yet.
I would say try to find some of the other in the same form as the ones you have. Here is what I would say you will need to see the big picture:
Elfquest Readers Collection
10 - Shards
12 - Ascent
12a- Reunion
Those 3 deal with the final battle with Winowill.
16 - Wavedancers - Introduces the Wavedancers.
The rest are sometimes ok sometimes really bad. None as good as the original stuff.
9 - Rouges Curse - What happens to Rayek after the events with Winowill in 12a. Why they printed it so far out of order is a mystery.
9a - Wolfrider - story of Bearclaw
9b - Blood of Ten Chiefs - Story of all the Wolfrider chiefs
9c - Kahvi - Her story
11 and 11a - Story of Ember and her tribe of Wolfriders after Cutter splits the tribe in two to make sure the tribe lives on while they take on Winowill.
14 a&b - Jinx - Tale of the last elves on the World of Two Moons in the future of the Elfquest univerese
13 - Rebels - same time as Jinx only instead of elves humans
15 - Forever Green - Dart and his group of dessert elves in the jungle dealing with a leftover from Blue Montain

Cool. Thanx! Now I know what I'm shooting for... the "Elfquest Readers Collection"
So I checked out this "Elfquest Readers Collection" dealio at my main source for western books, amazon.co.jp (amazon.com japan, cauz i b livin in japan), and i noticed that they are in severely LOW supply...
I take it they are not being printed by DC?
What's the deal here?! Why is it sooooo difficult to get the complete series of something that is considered to be a milestone in western comix?!
Oh well, I'll be in the states again in a few months... I'll axe around b4 coming back home to non-american-comix-ville...

@vince
Nope. Those Reader's Collections were printed by the original publisher of Elfquest, WaRP Graphics. DC is currently reprinting the early Elfquest Stories, and they are currently not that far away from the Beginnings of Shards. But I don't know if DC will reprint these later stories.

I haven't been reading the Grand Quest collections DC has been putting out. Have they made it through the original quest, Siege at Blue Mountain, and Kings of the Broken Wheel? Those 3 stories along with Shards are really the meat of the story in my mind.

They are at the end of Kings of the Broken Wheel. In the current volume the Palace has returned and Cutter and his family are reunited.

I didn't realize they had gotten that far into it. Since I already have the issues I had not been paying real close attention to it. I would say Shards would have to be next then if they are going to continue the Grand Quest books. Maybe some of the stuff from the Hidden Years series would fit in before Shards since some of it led into Shards. One of my favorites had to be the fight between Cutter and Rayek to settle the score for the stealing of Cutters wife and kids through time.

The fight between Cutter and Rayek will perhaps in one of the next two volumes. It seems like they will publish some stuff of these Hidden Years. I think those Dream issues are in the next volume.
The best source for this kind of informations is still the website of elfquest. www.elfquest.com
They're having a very good forum, where you should find the necessary informations.

@Vince
There are two types of reprint formats.
The one I'm collecting is in a black & white Pocket Book Format (or Manga Book if you prefer the term). It is published bi-monthly and costs 9.95$. Currently there have been published two Volumes called Elfquest: Wolfrider which tells stories from the childhood of Cutter and Skywise. And the current Reprint is called Elfquest: The Grand Quest which is currently up to Volume 12. #13 should be out this month.
The format you want is possible the Archive Format. There have been 3 Archives been published all in refreshed color and each costing 49,99$. The last Archive reprints Elfquest #11-15. As far as I know there have been no new Archive announced.

here's something else that may help:
http://tplist.millarworld.net/elfquest.html
I've got a question though - how small are these "pocket size" collections DC is putting out and are they in color or B&W?
I haven't ready any elfquest since i was a kid (and can't remember what i read or where i left off) so trying to figure out where to start if i want to get back into it... THANKS!

@Zilla
Well the problem is, I'm not that good in giving the size in the american metric system. I'm an european and we are measuring in meters and centimeters. If that's okay for you then I'll post tomorrow the measures. They are printend in b&w and partially the pages have been refitted for the smaller format. But that's something that shouldn't get your attention if you're a new reader like me. But I don't know how the old readers are seeing this.
