i am wanting to get a collected version of the Dark Phoenix Saga. i want to know which one is the best as far as coloring and print quality, etc. i have found 3 versions or printings on ebay. the first being "the graphic novel" which looks older, the other 2 have "marvel legends" and "marvel's finest" on the cover. can anyone recommend which one of these is the best? thanks.

They are all the same, just with different covers.

Remember that it is also collected in the Marvel Masterworks series.

Very nice hardcover edition.

WARNING: You might just get addicted and end up spending alot of your income on Marvel Masterworks (just like me) !!!

The 2000 edition with the Dark Phoenix cover is recolored; whereas, the original Dark Phoenix TPB has colored dots. It depends what you're looking for.

Actually the first Marvel comics I ever read were the individual back issues of Classic X-men featuring the Dark Phoenix saga. I don't know how expensive these issues would be now and I'm sure you are just looking for a trade collection. But one thing these issues had that aren't in any collection are little flashback stories at the end of the issue featuring Cyclops as a kid and maybe some others I couldn't remember.

In reality these probably aren't worth your time or money. I don't know why I am posting this.

Either of these editions are digitally recolored. The second book--with the Salvadore LaRocca cover--you can get at any book store.

I'd say, save the money and buy Essential X-Men vol. 2. It has the complete Dark Phoenix saga including all the previous several months build up that's not in the Phoenix Saga tpb and the aftermath in #138. Byrne's art looks better in black and white anyway.

I second this:
This is the best option IMHO.
On Ebay you can save 20 bucks on a Masterworks edition!

Nice extra: You get the Untold Tale of Uncanny # 137 too, and some other extra's too.

Totally worth it!
