I heard rumours that there will be a new SHAZAM! ongoing, is this true?
Don't break my heart!

Well, Billy Batson's dead, but I guess it could be about the Wizard or the others.

There are rumors, with hints at the cons, that something is in the works.

When did he die?
A month or so ago? Something was keeping him from turning into Cap Marvel and Sivana riddled him with bullets. Batman later remarked grimly that Sivana later invited Dr. Light over to . . .spend time with the body.

Holy f*cking sh*t, you're not serious, I thought he was stuck in the rock of eternity. =(

Yeah, happened during the Edwina Crisis in Plastic Man. There was a big funeral in the last issue. Mary gave a great speech, though.

Welcome to the inspired parody world of Kyle Baker's Plastic Man. Enjoy the rides, see the shows, but try not to take anything seriously.

This was post-Day of Vengeance. Another IC tie-in, but a stealth one, unadvertised.
Noh is right. It's what non-Plas readers get. They missed the death of Billy, and two interim Spectres.

Billy did die I read it in a comic book that came out this month! Thus it makes it true so :P Mary gave a beautiful speech and Batman's butt itched from the leather. Come on guys you push continuity but want to ignore Plastic Man? It had more of Wonder Woman's warrior philosophy going against Superman's ethics. God it's obviously true, just because you didn't read it or disagree doesn't mean it didn't happen!

It's not to late friend! You can get the first trade! Still able for reorder at any fine comic book store! And I'm sure if they don't have the rest of them in backfiles, try ebay, it has everything!
Plastic Man was awesome, but let's get back on topic: the Shazam! ongoing. In the last week, I read that a Shazam! ongoing is either a rumor or a strong possibility. I don't remember where... possibly one of the various WonderCon articles. There was so much info released in the last week that it all kind of blurred together.

The only thing I remember reading about is the Jeff Smith limited series, which takes place outside of regular continuity.

"...I read it in a comic book that came out this month!" Yet you dont say what comic. I want a specific name and number of this supposed issue. Furthermore I want a specific number on that issue of Palstic Man in which Billy Batson dies. I will have my answer! The game is afoot!

This sounds like something else.
But I'm still waiting for that Jeff Smith mini. I think that will be great.

Actualy his funeral was in 20 I do believe he was killed in 19. Just checked he was offed in 19 Edwina Crisis Part 2: The Death of Billy Batson. Sorry I didn't return your comment earlier this thread looked like it was left for dead so I ignored it. But yes he died in 19, 20 was his funeral, and sadly last issue of Plastic Man. As for any people who say well it's not in continuity, well issues 8 and 9 dealt with Plastic Man's son which was stupid (him suddenly having a child) and the whole point of the two parter was to get rid of it in continuity. Plastic Man ruled and glad to help it get more promotion even if it's already over.

Well, looks like we're getting a Captain Marvel maxi, entitled the Trials of Shazam atleast I think it's a Captain Mervel maxi.
One drawback: Judd Winnick

One drawback: Judd WinnickYeah, that's the part that has me torn. I loved what he did with Cap on the Superman/Shazam! mini, but I haven't liked his Marvel Family stuff other than that. Especially that horrible crossover in the Superman books that led up to Day of Vengeance. Yuck. I'm hoping he can recapture the magic he had on Superman/Shazam!.

Winnick gets the title? Bah! Not interested anymore, though I guess he's been writing all the Captain Marvel minis and such lately, but still, couldn't we have gotten a good writer instead?

Better than A New Beginning? I'm in. It's going to be a good year!
I like his work on Superman/Shazam. He seems to have Captain Marvel down pat. Im definately getting this.I'm with you. I was very surprised by Superman/Shazam!: First Thunder. I didn't expect much from Winick, but I thought he really nailed Cap's character. It was full of fun and wonder and magic. Exactly what I wanted out of a Captain Marvel story. It was a breath of fresh air after years of unfun Cap stories.
So I'm hopeful that Winick can keep up those elements of fun for this Trials of Shazam! story.

I can't believe there's going to be a Captain Marvel AND a Freedom Fighters series and I don't think I'm going to give a damn about either one.

Heh heh heh, I use New Beginning as an example to those people who want to update Captain Marvel and make him a "mature" character.

If Winnick can channel the spirit of BARRY WEEN into his work on the Big Red Cheese, it could be decent.

I would agree. Shazam by way of Barry Ween would be an excellent way of bringing the characters and their world back with a more modern sensibility. Unfortunately, Winnick's comics work is extremely hit & miss. And its most been miss lately. His two most recent Shazam stories didn't really impress me much, aside from the lovely art.

I liked the art. The story wasn't awful, but wasn't worth paying for, either.
