View Full Version : Savage Dragon questions
Ok I used to be a maor fan of this book when it first came out. Now it is completely weird and I have no clue what's happening.
A few questions.
1)Has Dragon's origin ever been revealed. If so what is it?
2)Has Larsen lost his mind? The book was cool and mainstream but he seemed to purposely make it as weird as possible and turn his fans off from it.
3)What is happening in the book now? My comic store doesn't even career it anymore.

It was revealed in the Image HC that came out in November.

I kind of doubt that was his intention. Erik said in a recent letters column he's going to bring the book closer to it's original storytelling style.

A lot has happened. THe Image Universe is destroyed, Dragon lives in a new universe and has a wife and daughter.

If you havn't read it recently, how would you know?
You sound like a person who fears change and loves Status Quos.
Me? I love the fact that Savage Dragon is an every changing book, the reinvents it's focus and themes and Dragon's life changes. SD is as good now as it ever was.
And Dragon has never been "Main Stream" it's very much an Indy Super-Hero title, Larsen has been breaking all the rules since day one.

What's wrong with "weird?"
I like the crazy villains and the Savage World was great. :p :D

Why would someone want SD to be MORE mainstream, it made a name for itself by being "weird". Plus if you like mainstream books there is no shortage of them, Spiders, Bats, S's and X's, a bunch are printed ever week that tell the same old cookie cutter story every week.
By my record Dragon started to move away from the "just another action comic book" around issue 12, but by issue 30 they were the "crazy fun unlce" of image. The book is now at 121, how can a person who wasn't around at 50 or 75 or even 100 say they are fan?
Dragon is great just the way it is.

No. You need to get the Image 25th Anniversary HC to read it. I don't know it myself.
Many fans of the Dragon don't want to know his origin. The Dragon doesn't even know where he came from, his origin isn't part of the comic book, and many readers like the fact that it is a mystery. Knowing where he came from might change who the character is or people's perception of him. Posting his origin would be the biggest spoiler in all of creator owned comics.

ACtualy, the origin, while an excelent story in its own right, doesn't affect Dragon as a character at all. That's the beauty of it, it's big and explosive, but it doesn't change anything in the end. Its very much a self contained story.
And, no, I'm not going to spoil it either. It'll be reprinted in SD someday.

Actually, it'll never be reprinted. So said Erik Larsen, in the "Holy Crap...." thread a few weeks back.

No, he said there would be no Soft Cover reprint of the Image Hard Cover.

That not exactly true. It adds a new layer to the storys. Erik said it, and gave example, on the image board. If you read the origin then read the series some things will make more sense. But it doesn't change the story. You can easily read the series without the origin.
And no I am not telling you either.
Someone just tell me please..

Wait- did he post a spoiler or a joke or nothing? I'm afraid to highlight the section because I don't want to ruin the Image 25th ann. HC. I ordered it, and it should arrive pretty soon.
