No details have been released yet, but what would everyone like to see Milligan write?
Personally...[taken from another thread]
No, Milligan getting his own book is a VERY GOOD thing for me. His writing is great for people who want an alternative on straight-forward superhero stories. X-Force/X-Statix was brilliant. I liked his X-Men too, but I can see why most traditional X-fans would hate his run. X-Men isn't the best title to turn into an offbeat alternative story, and the writing wasn't as good as in other works of Milligan.
But in a new X-Book, with characters that he created, Milligan can plot-out his weird ideas without fans bashing him all the time, while fans of X-Statix can enjoy the book without shame. :p
Which is why I would prefer an X-Statix relaunch than taking care of characters with lots of confusing history like Bishop and Psylocke :p
I want to see X-Statix characters with some mainstream characters--some who have been so serious for so long and have a fun book involving them (i.e. my idea for X-Men...In Idaho!!! With Lionheart!). It be nice for a change to see some of the brooding characters lighten up and X-Statix being able to be taken seriously by the more mainstream audience.

No, let Milligan create his own characters. He seems to work better with some freedom, and franchise characters don't really allow that too well. Just look at his Adjectiveless X-Men run. If you give him any pre-established characters, make them some of the minor ones that got saves in the 198 that he can play with. :)

I personally wish for the way X statix handled things , its part of the same universe , yet confined in its own sector , with only a few popular Marvel characters as a cameo .

Well, that's something most writers are best at, which explains why we had such an explosion of new mutants before Decimation. Hasn't stopped other writers before (or now). :)

Agreed. And the less of a history the already established characters have, the better.

Yeah but Milligan is no Dan Slott. If he took fan-favourite characters with lots of history, instead of giving us a more fun side of them, he would probably twist them into something the fans would perceive as "out of character". And his humor is too weird and twisted for the book to be actually light. Remember X-Statix? It was fun and funny in a twisted, demented and sometimes morbid way. ;)
So I would really prefer a new "X-Statix" to just a different team of X-Men.
On the other hand, I'm liking the mix of X-Statix characters with mainstream ones! I don't want to see the whole of old X-Statix resurrected, Doop and Dead Girl (and of course Edie Sawyer, if she could be convincingly ressurected) would be enough for me... If Lorna doesn't show up in "Blood of Apocalypse", then maybe she was taken to limbo only to resurface in Milligan's new book!
Imagine a team with Lorna, Doop/Daap, Dead Girl and some characters that would be left over from the 198 mini. Maybe even Leper Queen!
I really don't want Milligan writing big names with tiring history like Psylocke or Bishop. :(

True, his humor is twisted and at times dark, but he also has lighthearted wacky situations/characters that I think can do wonders for characters who are constantly in pain and seriousness (and actually my original idea for X-Men...In Idaho! did have Slott as writing it ;)). I want to see wackiness happen to the mainstreamers of the team, and more personal dilemmas for the returning X-Statix characters (personally I'd ressurect Dead Girl, Venus, Edie, Myles, and Phat). Hmmm...does sound very Slott-ish.
I want Milligan to write Psylocke. I think he could do well with her.

Give Milligan X-statix characters back. Or let him create his own team from scratch. Just please don't let him further ruin existing characters.

Yeah he pretty much butchered Havok into someone who couldn't lead a boyscout troop.

Milligan should be given the task to create something entirely new, and probably away from the X-Books.
Writing existing characters does not appear to be a strong suit for him. His run on X-Men has alienated a lot more readers than it it has impressed.

re: Havok as leader
I enjoyed his take. It was more welcome than the usual depiction of Havok. Not everyone is a born leader. Havok was shoehorned into that role in the writers' attempt to make him into Cyclops II, and they had succeeded at some point. But Havok shouldn't be a perfect leader. He is somehwat defined by being in his brother's shadow, aa he bviews him as an insanely high barrier he can never jump over and is constantly compared to

i'm gonna be hijacking the thread for a moment ..
I disagree , his take so far has been the same ol' Havok we could see years ago , only worse , totally insecure , and with a brother Complex . If anything Mutant X and to some extent Austen's Havok were a fresh change from the usual .

Alright, I'll be fair...
Peter Milligan seems to be better at writing a book starring characters that he created. I didn't like X-Statix, but everyone seems to be very happy with it. Since all the characters in X-Statix were his creations, I guess I can say that he wrote them quite well. But when it comes to writing a book starring classic characters, it doesn't work. The characterizations were all off, and everything was a mess. I don't want to go into bashing Milligan by talking about all the horrible stuff he did imo, because this thread is supposed to be supportive of him. When I heard he was going to be writing a new X-book, I groaned. So, since it's going to happen, I am hoping it's X-statix, which I won't be reading anyway. That way, Milligan fans will be happy that he has his characters back, and I'm happy that he won't be messing with the X-universe that I've come to love.
