Okay, I'm not a huge fan of threads like this, but I've never been happy with Arnold being cast as Conan. There has to be better Conan candidates out there, so who are they?

The Rock is the only choice.

The Rock is the only choice.

Yeah, The Rock is definately a better choice than Arnold. I wouldn't say that he's the ONLY choice.

I honestly can't think of any name actors. I'm sure there's someone in the whole wide world who could do it, but I haven't seen them in a movie before :) I will say, though, that when I attended Ukrainian cultural festival last year, I was really struck by the ethnic features of many of the Ukrainian people there: black-haired, brown-skinned, with very bright, almost luminous blue eyes. Almost exactly how Robert E. Howard described Conan.

I think the main quality to look for would be someone who's just as quick and agile as he is strong. Robert E. Howard always compared Conan to big cats like panthers or lions. The clumsy, slow-moving Arnold was more like a bull or rhino than a cat. Also, there needs to be a really forceful personality. Arnold was way too docile and accepting of his pathetic lot back when he played Conan.

I know what you mean. I've always thought that the lead vocalist for Type O Negative, Pete Steele, would make a good Conan. He's very tall, has long black hair, and spends a lot of time lifting weights, so he's pretty ripped too. Just picture him with a furry loin-cloth and a bloody axe/sword whichever you prefer. Here are some pics... Doesn't he look mean?

If they did a young Conan stating point, I'd say this guy. Not the best actor but I thin k he has the look.

I was actually introduced to the world of Conan as a child through Arnold's portrayal of the Hero. And to be honest, I don't want to see another Conan movie no matter who plays him, because the Conan movies are the 1 aspect of my childhood that leaves a good memory for me.

Now, if they were to go the Batman Begins route with Conan, then I'd be on that like white on rice. But I haven't liked The Rock since his WWF/WWE days, so if he played Conan, I'd pass.

At first, before he became the governor of my state, I heard Arnold was planning on doing the King Conan movie. I was happier then happy could get. But then he changed his mind and became governor. I was so heartbroken over it. But now that I think about it, I'm glad the movie isn't being made, because I bet they'd just screw it up like they did the Star Wars Trilogy.

I do kind of want to see a Conan Begins kind of film though, with all new actors, and a story that stuck closer to Robert E. Howard's vision.

That was the problem I had with Telfer in that Hercules miniseries he did: he's really, really not a good actor :)

Clancy Brown. Has the look, the voice, and the attitude to be Conan.

That's a pretty good pick. I'd forgotten about him. Here's a pic for those who don't know what he looks like...

Although I only watched a few episodes of the Conan TV series, I though Ralf Moeller did a pretty good job at playing the title character. The series was a bit too close to Hercules and Xena for my taste, but the movie would likely be darker. He could take a darker turn in his exploration of the character.
