I was just poking around and I saw an alternate cover to New Mutants #87, the issue which introduced CABLE to the Marvel Universe. Featured on the cover was a completely different character. I don't recognize him... Could this have been one of the characters Liefeld proposed to become the new team leader? Anyone know any more about this?

I don't know who that was supposed to be at the time, that that same design turned up in Youngblood a few years later.

Ah, that's funny. That Liefeld. Just 'cause an idea isn't good enough for Marvel doesn't mean you can't start your own company and use it there...

Supposedly Louise Simonson wanted a character called Quentin to be the new leader guy. Dunno what he looked like (or if he looked any different from Cable.)

Liefeld's artwork sure does suck.

That is all.

Liefeld's artwork was refreshing in 1989-1991; however, he has yet to improve his artwork in the decade since he hit it big with Marvel & DC all those years ago.

I'm harsh , but i've hated his art from the start , and was horrified when it got even worse through the years .

He swipes, sure. But when he swipes from himself, I'm less troubled by it.

Try looking under Timber Wolf, Legion of Superheroes.

Bob Harras wanted Cable to be named Quinn. I mean, c'mon. Quinn?

Rob Liefeld did a pinup in New Mutants (1st Series) Annual 6 of what the X-Force roster was going to be, and it was quite different. Wolfsbane was there (but she wasn't available so Liefeld created Feral), Shatterstar made his first appearance in the pinup (he looked quite different), Magik was there (I wish Liefeld got Magik, so Lobdell wouldn't have bloody killed her), Warlock (but he was killed off. Not sure whose idea it was), Cannonball, Meltdown, Sunspot, and another female I couldn't identify with blonde hair. Any ideas of who that was?

And yeah, Rob Liefeld's art was never good, imo. Most of his plots in the early 90's were good, but the recent X-Force mini and the Shatterstar mini were both horrible.

Wasn't the other blonde supposed to be Magma?

Yeah, it was supposed to be Magma. I have mixed feelings about that "almost roster"... on the one hand, it would have been nice to have had more New Mutants remain when the team turned into X-Force; but on the other hand, I'm really pretty glad they escaped that fate. *shudder*
