After I read a couple of trades of Batman (Hush and Halloween) I've been interested in starting to read up on Batman (I mainly read Marvel) but I don't know where to pick it up. I know that Crisis is HUGE and will change everything thats going to go in in the DCU but I picked it up and had no idea what was going on. So my question is should I wait a while before I get started on reading about Batman, or should I pick up some TPB like the Red Hood ones, that are coming out soon i think, and just collect the issues in trade. Or if anyone has some recomendations for me I'm all ears but I hear that the issues of Batman are very good reads.

I'd say you should jump on in March, that's when OYL starts up. But for now TBP are good.

Year One, Year Two, The Killing Joke, and a Death in the Family are some great background ones. Broken City, Venom, and the Knightquest/Knights end/etc. series are some good reads for characterization. Hush Returns, Year One: Ra's Ah Ghul, I forgot the name of the Red Hood trade are some decent current stories.

My recomendations would be Year One, Killing Joke, Death in the Family, and Broken City.

"Dark Victory" is good. I'm currently reading "Haunted Knight", which is alright but isn't as good a work as it could be coming from Jeph Loeb. I also have "The Greatest Batman Stories Ever Told" that's a good read, has some more important stories in it from the various decades.

I think Haunted Knight is terrific, especially the art. Its one of my favorite Batman trades! As for buying the title monthy, I'd advise starting in March also.

Batman
Detective
Birds Of Prey
Robin
Nightwing
Catwoman

LODK isn't affected.

If I left something out, someone will jump in....

This is a GREAT time to start reading Batman stuff.

I was also thinking of jumping on with the OYL arcs. My intention was to pick up the Detective Comics/Batman crossover arc. I am already reading nightwing as of the IC beginning. I also have about 15 other titles that I am currently getting or will get in the DC Universe. How important are the other Batman related titles (Catwoman, Birds of Prey, Robin)? Should I add them to my pull list? My list of titles on my pull list is in the thirties all together - I do have to draw the line somewhere, but I do want to add all important titles for the mainstream DC continuity. Is picking up Batman and Detective starting with OYL a good enough point, or should I go back a little further (like the last arc before OYL)? I definately don't want to feel lost, but don't wanty to spend more of a fortune than I already have.

I'm Jumping on aboard batman with OYL arcs also. Ive signed up for the main titles, Batman, Detective and Catwoman. My favorite trade paperbacks are Knight fall and No Man's Land. Batman and detective are a good bet in March because James Roninson is starting off the new era of Batman with a 8 part storyline running in both titles.
