I used to prefer on-going series, but in too many cases authors build anticipation and fail to deliver, or just walk away without resolving anything at all.
I have found that good, solid series of 4 to 12 issues, collected in a trade and marketed by word of mouth are the best bets when you want to feel satsified at the end of a series.
DC: The New Frontier, Selina's Big Score, The Long Halloween, DKR, Year One, A Death in the Family, Lonely Place of Dying, No Man's Land and others stand the test of time. You know what you are getting, and can buy based on the suggestion of people who share your tastes.
So, what are your thoughts?
