Mezco’s Hellboy Comic Series 3, which will include Abe Sabien, Rasputin, Frog Monster, and Anung Un Rama Hellboy is set to debut at San Diego Comic Con 2006 with a release date TBD.

If you check the image gallery they have some images of Johann. If memory serves me, the prototype wasn't clear but he is now. No word yet on the japanese heads though. Also, the vest is removable on Roger and you can see his chest power hole.
Another thing I hadn't noticed before but the Wake the Devil rocket pack Hellboy has smooth skin. It's not pitted and marked like the first release was. Some people might be really interested in that. I'm not too interested in the figure but the head is ball jointed so that would be easy to pop off and switch with any previous ones (I might do that so I thought I'd share.) Interesting stuff!

Not that it matters but I screwed up the title of this thread by accident...
Dark Horse also has a Toy Fair treat!

Damn! One can't see the eyes of HB "Rocketeer" here. I hope they didn't changed them and they'r the same ones as on MEZCO site. You know the "what the hell are they doing to me this time... owww.... crap."-eyes! ;) I just love his face expression!

Excellent! Can't wait to pick these up. Not sure which version of Johann I like more, but it doesn't really matter.

Tad...what is that "other" figure of Hellboy? Its design looks very familiar. The little qee figures are cool (Chinese?) but that big guy is the one that got may attention!
Will look forward to any info you can offer WHEN you can offer it.

These do look sweet.
Psycho...I had the same experience with the first series but not through ebay. Bought them on line and they never came though they billed me for the set. So I kept bothering them until they sent a refund. So I settled for just the Hellboy figure.
Mezco is really doing a great job with these.

I'm sorry they changed the Johann from the milky white head to a clear one. Clear is a more obvious choice, but I really liked the opaque version better. Maybe they'll still offer that one as a convention exclusive or something?
Anyway, I'm REALLY glad they're doing abe in Wave 3. I can't wait to see what he looks like! A badass comic book version of Abe done in the Mezco style... I think it will be one amazing figure.

Mezco has done an absolutely amazing job with these HB comic Series figures, and I agree that in particular I'm looking forward to their version of Abe.
What's really cool about wave 3, is that it was almost completely chosen by fan request. We ran (well, I started them, but it was after many requests and comments on the Mezco Messageboard from fellow fans) a series of 5 Poll's, ranging from favorite hero to favorite and everything in between. After we finished up, the fans chose: Frog Monster, the post-death version of Rasputin, Abe, and Anung Un Rama as their favorites from each category. It's with no small amount of satisfaction that I feel the fans have spoken. However, thankfully Mezco is the kind of company that listens to their fans and cares about what they think.

Cool! this (http://photos.figures.com/photo/1/showphoto.php?photo=32638&cat=3480) wasn't up when I first checked the site. At least, I didn't see it. I've got no details.

I'd have to say I prefer the original Johann prototype as well, both the painted head and blue-ish ectoplasm.
They look so close to finalized, but we still have to wait six more months.

Things move fast it appears. Makes me damn giddy, I tell ya. GIDDY! I need to clear more shelf space...or get more shelves. Love to see that guy appear in 18" size to go along with movie and comic versions.
But, so as to not hijack the thread...you're right, Bippo, 6 months for them to come out seems like forever. Gives me time to track down Liz (I've given up on the ape) to at least have the whole BPRD set.
I do find it strange they did the alien. Stygian, you are right about Mezco's desire to please the fans. Only long time fans would appreciate the alien figure given their tiny role in the Hellboy universe. To put this out before Abe is a bold move on Mezco's part - though they did need to leave a main figure for round 3.
That Hellboy Animated figure is not from Mezco, btw. Dark Horse commissioned a sculptor themselves.

Nice! I'm still not sure how that face and oversized RHOD are going to look on action figures or statues (as far as whether I've decided to like them yet or not), but I'll reserve further comment until I've seen the animated Hellboy move on film.
Thanks for posting that link sir!

I'd pay BIG BUCKS for a Hellboy animated maquette (preferably 1:6 scale). Sean's design looks awesome in 3D as well. Not too fond of the paintjob, but the sculpting is really nice.

I like the finished Johann better . . .
As for the cards, are those cards gonna be for sale? Were they for sale? Are they just showing me off? Mezco needs to slow down on their series. They are gonna run out of figures here real soon. I mean, dont get me wrong, I love that ever 4 months a new line is coming out. But like after series 3 then what? Golden Hellboy? Member when Spawn made the Gold toys?
I'd take an animated HB.

Well sir, the next Hellboy Comic series isn't slated for release until Fall '06, so I wouldn't worry about Mezco running out of characters too quickly.

Slow down? Are you kidding?? They can't pump 'em out fast enough for me! There are so many characters I want them to get to... I just hope they still have the license by the time they get 'round to them! Fall '06 seems like a long wait to me. (And it's always even later than the projected date that these things actually ship.)
But imagine if we got as many Hellboy figures down the road as they've done Family Guy figures so far! Personally, I really want the complete Nazi set, and they haven't even done ANY of those guys yet. (Well, except Von Klempt.) Imagine a figure of that guy with the detachable mace hand?
Then I want all the demons of Hell, and the various goblins and creatures, and a li'l "Pancakes" Hellboy of course...
I think it'll be a LONG while before they need to resort to Golden Hellboy. :)
But maybe that's just me.

Did you vote in the various Hellboy Comic Series line Poll's on the Mezco Messageboard that ran several months back? Those Poll's seemed to weigh heavily in the decision making process for Series 3.
The figures you've mentioned are all nice choices and would probably make great figures, but if you don't let your voice be heard, no one but the small group of fans who post on this Messageboard will know. :)

I like what your saying Brisco and I'd like to subscribe to your news letter. I didnt think about all the Nazi's and deamons. Yes, yes I concur. And what about a Rasputin? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm OHFRICK OR A BABA YAGA. A variant toy WITH an eye

Variants used to be the death of me..now i only get what i like. I bought the Series 1 Regular Hellboy, Kriegaffe i would have liked but didn't get, i've shockingly not bought the Lojo fig. I like the Clear Johann and might potentially get that one, as well as an Abe, but the Liz fig just looks too off for me. The Roger one i might get also, but it looks strange to me as well..

I only got the exclusive trench coat HB without the damage, kriegaffe, and LoJo. I did get the ghost of LoJo though. I don't usually get variants unless the change is big enough or cool enough.
Ghost of LoJo is pretty sick.

I picked up all four of the comic line figures, and to my surprise, Liz is probably my favorite just behind HB himself. I don't really understand the general consensus of dislike for her figure. Is it because she looks so haggard? Check out some of the earlier stories - she was definitely pretty haggard looking for a while there. That being said, I wouldn't mind if somewhere down the road they made another Liz, maybe one a little more healthy like her current incarnation.
Bippo
02-15-2006, 07:35 PM
I would've liked Liz's hair to be red, instead of brown. That and a little less shading under the eyes and the figure would be perfect.
I hope they may do some head variants for the Frog Monster. They seemed to vary a bit in appearance in just the Seed of Destruction. That's just in one story and with one artist. Though Mezco is well known for head variants I doubt they will do this.
If Series 4 is also heavily influenced by Mezco board poll then a likely lineup would be Kate Corrigan, Baba Yaga, Kroenen, and pancakes Hellboy. Those were the number 2 picks by category except pancakes Hellboy, who was number 1.

I would love to see a Kate figure, beyond the one in the pvc set. And it sounds like she'll be playing a major role in The Universal Machine.

AMEN! I was asking for this figure back when the Liz first came out. A new head and minor variations on the costuming and we'd be set! :)

I agree with you on her being made eventually but she doesn't have the coolness factor the alien does. So that's sort of going against her. All I'm saying is thank god it isn;t like star wars where we have to compete with the interests of 7 year olds for our figure choices.

Like the many, many Batman variants with few villains in the TAS line. It sure took them awhile to make a Harley and that figure flew off the shelves.
Adult collector's may sometimes have odd competing interests. At least the Mezco board has been rational so far. Spawn collectors, on the other hand, can have some strange wants. Sure given that nature of the character and the statuesque figures, Spawn and hellspawn variants are much more warranted, but there's still many ignored characters. Frequent, vocal board members have managed to gain a lot of fickle support for figures that end up being peg warmers (ex: Pirate Spawn). I want Brimstone, Grace, and a normal-looking Jessica Priest already! :evilangry
That's one of the major reasons I've stopped being a McFarlane Toys collector; another being the god awful Monsters 4 line. Way to go screwing up a good series. :(

Hehe..Bippo, i got a Harley for sale if you want it!
McFarlane toys seem bred for variants, as almost every normal figure i have bought from them seems to have a variant. Sadly, the Mcfarlane figs are the only ones i've never taken out of their packages..i've heard too many breakage issue stories about them. My Mezco Hellboy has already taken a beating from the cat and lived, no damage taken..
