You know the drill, video games are destroying the youth, etc. But this one's worth reading for the entertainment value. Blinking is apparently the latest Biblical plague. Hilarious out of context statistical quotes, like "Every hour a child spends in front of their console or TV doubles their risk of obesity." A list of reccomended alternatives that reminds us that all sports, even dodgeball, are more socially acceptable than video games. Although the truly strange thing about their list is how few of the activities offer any exercise value. I'd be willing to guess that every hour spent playing cards increases your risk of obesity too.

Is this story for real?

I mentions epileptic seizures without mentioning that games can only cause seizures in epileptics, leaving one I assume to draw the conclusion that games cause epilepsy.

This bit is just bizarre:

Doctors warn there’s also a chance the violence from some video games will affect your child psychologically. Pediatrician Donald Fields told CBS 47, "It is not uncommon to see children admitted to this hospital with conversion reactions…witness violent events and they can paralyze themselves just with their mind."

I mean sure, witnessing violence can cause children (or adults for that matter) to go into shock and/or retreat into their own mind. We're now expected to believe violence in video games can cause this now?

And this:

Dr. Field says often times video games leave unsure of what’s ‘real’ and what is simply ‘fantasy.’

"If you really understand that children don't associate with fantasy, fiction... then it may be time to pull the plug on it," warned Fields.

Who edited this article, a monkey?

And as sanagi said, most of the alternative abilities they list have no more exercise value than video games. I mean, playcards? Who cares if our children gamble, as long as they don't play those evil, evil videogames!

This story has to be a joke.

witness violent events and they can paralyze themselves just with their mind

fear the telekinetic mind of the gamer

Dr. Field says often times video games leave unsure of what’s ‘real’ and what is simply ‘fantasy.’

but what about the Final Fantasy :D

*anti-social behavior *increased aggression *drop in school work or report card grades.

You wouldn't suppose that maybe excessive game play may be the escape from the cause of this behavoir. No, Dr Fred...i mean Field must be a very intelligent indivdual. after all, he gave us advice:

As if that wasn’t enough. Every hour a child spends in front of their console or TV doubles their risk of obesity Dr. Fields’ recommendation is simple: get out and play

uhm.... No shit? (but he's forgetting about gameboys, psps...etc.)

As far as his list... They must have wanted to stretch it to 25 items.

Why is dodgeball not included soccer, softball, volleyball or basketball? For that matter 4 options (5, 8, 10, 11) all involve sports, why do you need 4 options to say "go play a sport?"

Listen to your and Dance to your favorite music needs 2 slots as well.

14. Play cards
so Video Game bad, but Magic/Yugioh/Pokemon/ccg of the month is ok?

1. Call a friend
Does a MMO count?

This artical is so half assed. I crown it Comedy Gold.

Not gold, my freind. Not something that jumps out and says "HAY GUYS I'M ROFLARIOUS!", more like that hillbilly kid from gradeschool that just sat there and looked stupid.
Pewter? yeah. Comedy Pewter.
