Over my lunch hour today, I hit a local used bookstore with a good selection of comics and TPBs.

Today, I picked up the following for $100 Canadian.

Essentials Avengers – Volumes 1, 2, 3 and 4.
Essential Incredible Hulk – Volumes 1 & 2
Chronicles of Conan – Volume 1
Rio - Hardcover, Limited Edition signed by Doug Wildey (394 of 1500)
Spirit Casebook – Kitchen Sink softcover
DC 100 Page World’s Greatest Super Heroes reprint

The 4 Avengers volumes alone would have cost me over $100 at their original Canadian cover price + tax.

I have many of the original Avengers and a few of the Hulk issues as well as the first Masterworks volume for each, but it’s nice to have them in this format for when Logan develops an interest in funnybooks. I also have the original of the World’s Greatest Super Heroes, but I could pass up the reprint for $3, considering the cover price is more than $10 Canadian.

In terms of the Conan – I only have one early issue (thanks JB!), and I was happy to find it at a low price. I probably have most of the Spirit stories in that casebook in one form or another – but I generally try to buy anything and everything Spirit related.

Ever since our Doug Wildey discussion, I have had my eye out for any Rio book I was very excited to find this book. I can’t wait to read it.

My day got off to a poor start, but it obviously got a whole lot better.

Nice haul. I didn't leave the house yet today, but the mail brought a nice Jimmy Olsen and a very nice New Gods in addition to the previously-mentioned stack of Atlas Comics.

great pickups there, y'all.

with any luck (since just a couple of weeks ago they claimed they couldn't find my house, which has only been in the middle of the city, a couple of blocks from a major thoroughfare, for some 65 years or so), when i get home from work tonight (11-hour workdays mean i don't make either lcs till saturday) ups will have delivered my latest order from lone star comics ... nothing particularly special, but it'll be nice to have all 8 issues of ditko's shade - the changing man, as well as the 2 ishes of the late '80s power girl miniseries that i was missing.

even better, maybe the postal service will have delivered my ebay-won lot of 10 "dial h for hero" ishes of house of mystery.

Nice pick-up, Scott. I've been on something of a buying freeze. When you have over 20 Essentials to read, it seems a little silly to add to the pile. I did recently pick up a copy of the Whiteout trade. I liked Rucka's work on Gotham Central, so when I was able to get it for $4, I decided to pick it up.

LOL

That's exactly what I was thinking when I was staring at these books. Do I really need to add to the pile?

I figured, what the heck? I may never see them at this price again and I'll enjoy reading them with Logan in a few years time.

I never fully appreciated how much having a baby would cut into my funnybook reading time.

i've found that having a job has had much the same effect.
