DAILY RECORD
RANDOLPH -- The ex-wife of a Pennsylvania man who has refused to return their son from a custody visit said her ex-husband in 2002 kept the boy longer than he should have.
"This isn't the first time this has happened," Coleen Kolenda, 41, said during an interview at her home. "He did this in 2002 (for a week) but not to the extent of leaving the state."
Police haven't been able to locate either the father or son. They ask that anyone with information on the whereabouts of either the son or father should call their local police department and the Randolph Police Department at (973) 989-7000. Anyone wishing to provide information on an anonymous basis can call the Morris County Crimestoppers line at (973) 267-2255.
Ronald Kolenda took his son for a weekend visit on Jan. 27 and has not returned him, police said. He was supposed to drop the boy off at his mother's home on Jan. 29. Visitation was supposed to take place every other weekend, from Friday to Sunday.
Ronald Kolenda has had contact with Randolph Township police and is refusing to return Ronnie, who's now listed as a missing juvenile and will be taken into protective custody once he is located, police said.
Ronald Kolenda's last known address was in Bethlehem, Pa. He has connections to North Myrtle Beach, S.C.
"It's not a kidnapping,"Randolph Detective Sgt. David Stokoe said of the case. "It's interference with child custody."
Coleen Kolenda said she was married to her husband for 14 years before divorcing two and a half years ago.
Her son, Ronnie, is 5 feet tall, 85 pounds with blue eyes and brown, shaggy hair. He also has a blue cast on his right arm.
"He's very tall, skinny and lanky," she said of Ronnie, who attends Randolph Middle School.
She described her son as someone who would go out of his way to help others, and even referred to a citation he received from the Ironia School for assisting students and teachers.
"He's very friendly," she said. "He's very kind. He's very sociable. He's very funny."
Coleen Kolenda said her son is an avid baseball player with the township's recreational league, and played football up until a couple of years ago. He also likes playing video games and computer games.
Ronald Kolenda is described as a white male, 5-feet-10, 240 pounds with short brown hair.
He works in Newark but has been calling out sick from his job at the Anheuser Busch brewery.
It is possible the elder Kolenda may be driving a black 2002 Nissan Xterra sport utility vehicle with either New Jersey or Pennsylvania plates.
Coleen Kolenda said she's certain her son gets along well with his father.
"As far as I know he loves his dad very much," she said, later adding, "I just worry that Ronnie's safe. That's all. I just want him safe."
Coleen Kolenda, a registered nurse, was able to secure emergency leave from her employer.
She said Randolph police have been great in assisting her.
"They've been doing everything they can, they've been wonderful," she said.
"I want my son back, and I want (Ronald) prosecuted for what he did," she said.
