This poster was used to promote the 1990s JSA:

This poster is odd due to the fact that JOHNNY QUICK & LIBERTY BELLE (Two minor DC heroes who were part of the All-Star Squadron) were depicted as members of the group!

What do you think of this?????

I think that the poster doesn't come up when I click on that link.

That's from the Mike Parobeck series, right?

I think I only ever read 1 issue of that (I was sort-of... away from comics in the 90s) - but it seemed like a lot of fun (and beautifully drawn).

I assume that Liberty Belle & Johny Quick joined the JSA sometime after All-Star, and were included as cast members in that run...

BTW, newsarama recently had a nice article remembering Parobeck - here. (http://www.newsarama.com/general/Parobeck/RememberParobeck.htm)

Is Johnny Quick dead? He hasn't made a single appearance in the current JSA series so far. I'm only missing one issue, the Infinite Crisis tie-in with Mr. Terrific on the cover, and I'm assuming Johnny Quick didn't appear there, either.

Is Johnny Quick dead?Yep, in an issue of FLASH. He merged with the Speed Force during Mark Waid's "Dead Heat" storyline.

It's been around 10 years since I've looked at those books, but I think it was just a mistake. Johnny and Libby did appear in the book, but never joined the JSA. I need to pull those books out. Good series.

Yeah, Parobeck drew that series. It was really good, I'm going to have to dig those issues out and read 'em again soon.

The fact that it was cancelled after just 10 issues because DC didn't want a title starring old superheroes, really shows that, at times, DC hasn't got a clue.

I have one issue of that run but I need to get the rest. I am a huge fan of Mike Parobecks work. It is so sad he passed away.

Yes thats true, DC has an advantage to use there old golden age characters now, the reader feels like DCU has a historical deep.
And with modern writing those characters are as good as the newer ones, maybe better becauce they have not been around much in between.
There is no other publisher who can do that, ok Marvel have some Golden age heroes, but they have used the good ones more or less a long time, and not much is left to bring back (ref: Bucky, if you have to bring back him you really don't have much to chose from).

I don't know why they felt they had to kill them all off in the 90s?

To be fair, almost nobody in the comic industry had a clue for several consecutive years in the 90's.

Umm. What about the 70s and 80s too!

But yeah the 90s were really really bad overall. The 70s I just have a beef with since DC cancelled New Gods and the 80s were just strange.

What do you like if 70s and 80s and 90s is no good?
Silver age or 2000- comics?

I need to pull those books out. Good series.

By a strange coincidence I pulled out these ten books earlier this week. It's very much a fun, playful series, quite different from the current JSA (which I love dearly).

Looking at Mike Parobeck's artwork again -- what a deceptively simple style. Lovely work. A sad loss.
