That's pretty neat. All they have to do now is when its in robot mode, have a working plasma rifle pop out of its back and into its hand.

I dunno... I notice that they avoid showing any people while it's transforming, and there's more than a whiff of Harryhausen to the way it moves. I think this is a stop-motion animation.

I'm not so sure about that, There were a couple flashes from a flash camera, which I think would be hard to get to look right in stop motion animation, not to mention the zooming of the video camera.

I'd assume it would look a lot better if it was. I mean, hell, what was that, it transforms from a roller skate or something?
