One day my wife surprised me by calling me at work and telling me she was pregnant. Does that count?

(Of course, we'd been wanting to have a baby, so it was a good surprise.)

Appreciation, yes.

Surprises? Depends on the person. Some people hate surprises, and I'm one of them.

So if your old lady went out and bought you a stack of comics as a surprise you'd get pissed off? Thats just fucked up.

Anyway, for the question at hand; hell ya we need some surprises! I honestly get tired of having to be the one to initiate things. I'd like to find a chick that would surprise me by randomly wearing some erotic lingerie, or buy me something I like, or taking me to a movie or comic con w/o bitching cause she doesn't like it.

Tru dat. Surprises aren't always a good thing. Personally, I don't really care for surprises, but I'm not gonna get bent outta shape by 'em neither.

Dude, I want to live in the same bizarro world as you - where men give women everything they want and men get nothing in return.

I don't think I've ever been "spoiled" per se, unless by "spoiled" you mean I didn't find out they were cheating until after we broke up....

Most definitely. I would enjoy. There is no disputing that. Alls I was sayin' is that not every surprise is good. What you just described is a great surprise, and I would not object to it in any way.

No, I tend to go after the non-emotional type. They just have no concept of what women like - even when they're flat-out told.

Luckily, the current boyfriend is better at the whole consideration thing than those past.

Dating geekboys, huh?

My female friends all complain about the difficulty of flirting with or seducing geeks. It's not just that we're clueless, though we are, it's that we're also actively resistant to the idea of a woman being attracted to us, and way too insecure to pursue any hints in case we're wrong.

Basically, we're the guys who sit there thinking to ourselves "She probably just meant 'Take me right here on the floor, you mighty stallion' in a friendly way."

But I agree that men like gifts and surprises as much as women - they just don't despertaely need them to be happy like so many women think they do.

A surprise would be nice but not counting the physical, it usually never happens

I did get the first issue of when Spider-Man first got the black costume as a gift once

And the latest girl I was with gave me two really good drawings. Here's one of them

That's a sweet pic . . .

My wife has surprised me when I came home from work, and she sent the kids away and was all dolled up in Victoria's Secret Lingerie . . . . I think any guy would like that kind of "surprise."

I think there was a thread awhile back about how people express and receive love differently. For me, I'm not really attached to "stuff." So a surprise that's "a memory" or and experience means more than a material gift.

My wife is wired similarly - so my surprises to her have been surprise weekends away or trips. I surprised her on our 10th anniversary with a Cruise.

Both genders buy presents. Especially if they're insecure in the relationship.

I love surprising folks, but I don't necessarily like it the other way round. It would have to be a very thoughtful surprise and not a last-minute sort of thing.

I don't give surprise gifts often, but when I do, I put a lot of thought into them.

Am I the only neanderthal here who thinks the best surprise gift I could receive from my sig other would be her modeling her newest lingerie acquisition?

I would have to agree with you .... I'm a girl of course, but spending time is on of the priceless gifts to give. You don't even have to pay that much if you didn't want to :D
