Who has it? Is it any good? I am worried that the Bill Sienkiwicz pages will be too dark and hard to read in the black and white. Did anyone experience any problems with it?

I am getting a jones for Moon Knight and want to see if this is worth picking up or if I should just raid quarter bins and see what I find.

It doesn't come out for another week or so, I think on the 15th. So if anyone's got it, I'm officially impressed.

Okay has anyone gotten this one yet? I think it comes out today. Any word on the art and how it looks in the Black and White? If the pages don't look muddy I want to pick this up.

April, I think.

Correct, sir! I'm somewhat apprehensive, as the TV writers have been hit-and-miss, but I'll sure give it a try.

Someone might be able to answer this for me.I hope so anyway.Back in his first appearance in Werewolf By Night,Mark Spector is given his original Moon Knight costume by the Committee before they send him off after the Werewolf. In Moon Knight#1,he kinda starts on his way to becoming Moon Knight in Africa when he first encounters Khonshu and Bushman.Did they update his origin with issue #1 or was it just fleshed out a little more and he was destined to become Moon Knight even before he met the Committee?

I don't know if Bushman is alive or dead but I hope he appears in the new series at some point.

I'm sure I'm just being incredibly dense, but... who was Morpheus? The back cover of the Essential mentions him, but I read the entire thing and can't remember a guy named that. Who am I forgetting?

Also, maybe longtime MK can tell me- whatever happened to his squad of helpers? What were the final fates of Gena, her kids, and Crowley? I'm sure that in the 90s, at least half of them were murdered in front of MK's eyes and the other half turned evil for no reason, but could someone give some specifics?

I don't have all the issues of the 90's series that started with Chuck Dixon writitng. But I do have quite a few of them, and Gena her kids of Crawely nevered showed up. Probably because they never really touched the whole multiple identiy plot line.

But they did show up in the Marvel Knights: Moon Knight mini series they were in that all helping him out. And none of them died or turned evil. I think that mini came out in like 1998.

Morpheus is Moon Knight's 1rst and only super-powered foe. Robert Markham has mutated into Morpheus. As Morpheus he can not sleep, thus his brain does not have the ability to rest or dream. This a produces a build up and he can expell this excess energy as ebon energy. Morpheus can manipulate this energy into physically tangible tendrills.

Charlie Huston has stated in earlier interviews that all of Moon Knight's background characters will be in the new series; Marlene, Frenchie, Crawley, Gena and her 2 children Ricky and Ray and Samuels. Who knows we may even see the likes of Detective Flint again as well. ;)

I have just gotten into the character due to his appearance in Marvel Team-Up a few arcs ago and his 'ultimization' in Ultimate Spider-Man. Not only that, but the preview pages and interviews with Charlie Huston and David Finch regarding the new series really has me interested in the character.

I am definitely getting the new ongoing, however, I was wondering if I should pick this up. I would, but since it is late 70's-early 80's, I was worried it might not age well, or the stories might be a bit cheesy and poorly written with tons of unneeded exposition, that sort of thing.

Anyway, I guess I'm asking those who bought it if they liked it. Was it good? Were the stories intelligently done action/horror? Did they age well? Will they insult my intelligence or do they actually read well in 2006? Thanks in advance.

Personally, I greatly enjoyed it... but then again, I'm of the opinion that modern comics are simply differently written than those of the past, rather than specifically better, so our tastes appear to vary in that respect. Are Moon Knight's early stories cheesy in places? Sure, they're a product of the time period. Less so with his solo series, but in his early guest spots, there was certainly the usual 70's melodrama. 80's comics tended to be a bit more "mature" (not really the right word, but it's early and I can't think of a better one), and MK's stories from his appearances in Hulk magazine and then his solo book did go more in that direction, which might be more what you're looking for. But if you need something that reads like it was written by Bendis, keep looking.

Agreed, I'm down to the last couple issues of his solo series in the Essential and they are far better than his early appearences.

The stuff in Werewolf by Night, Spider-Man and the Team-up were really cheesy, but when you make it to the Hulk Magazine stuff w/ Doug Moench writing, it gets much better. I've really enjoyed Doug's stories. We need Essential Moon Knight volume 2 NOW dammnit!

It's not to cheesy, it not a funny comic book or anything.

Marc have troubles with his splitting personality and goes insane so for it's time it's pretty dark.

And Moon Knight is not that kind of character with stupid agendas as many other superheroes have, he does what he is needed to do.
Well i talk about this version in the essentials, in later versions he became more of a Batman copy and have standard superhero adventures, i like the version with the multiple persnoas that always was a little insane.

Id definetly pick up the older stuff I also down to the few last issues of the Essentail trade. And Yes the first few issues at the beginning are a little chezzy or come off that way a little bit. But all the stuff that was from the first 10 issues of this own series and the Hulk Magizine are extremely good. In fact the last few issues of the Hulk Magizine are among my fav Moon Knight issues the Hatchet Man issues are extremely good stuff.

I agree with the reviews and suggest everyone pick it up. A good character that needs a good book.

this is actually explained in moon knight #4 of the original series. it was explained that frenchie had infiltrated the committee and made it look as if they were giving him the moon knight costume for the first time, even though he had adopted the identity previously. there really isn't a good explanation for this, as it kind of compromises his secret identity as marc spector, but at least they tried to explain it and didn't just pretend it never happened.

Bought it yesterday out of a lark and so far, the page repros have been decent to very good. The only time I had problems was for the Marvel Preview # 21 where the reprint was TOO DARK that some of the small details in a few of the pages were murky & hard to make out.

I got the book yesterday and im already on issue 2 of the original series. Really great stuff. The Hatchet Man was the first comic story to have my heart racing in ages. Monech is a master of suspense without a doubt. And the quality of the book itself is far more luxurious than alot of Essentials, on par with Essential Ghost Rider in my opinion. 5 Crescent-Darts all the way!
