I've just started an online sketch journal. It's updated regularly. It's mainly for me to have something to look back at as I improve (at least I'm hoping I'll improve lol!) :D Thanks for your time.

Like the Spider-Man one in particular. Only criticism I have is that the inside corners of his mask shouldn't curve down like that.

And really, that's just a nitpick.

LOL Yeah it is! :p
I blame Mark Bagely. ;) He's the one who did the original; mine was just a photo to go with my gripe about the new Spidey costume.

Hey Rae, stuff looks pretty good.
A few suggestions on drawing people, when it warms up go to the park and sketch people really fast. Just do thumbnails to get the body proportions down and just the basic movement. Rule number one to being a better artist, draw from life.
I remember an art teacher from College, a painter by Dave Klamen (google him for some of his art), he always stated that his favorite subject to draw nude was this elderly over weight woman. She was filled with wrinkles and folds that were very hard to capture. He was an excellent teacher and I learned alot from him.
A few tidbits about him: he played the guitar and loved Ted Nugent and he never cooked at home. He didn't know how so he would go out to eat and he was a body builder.

Ok, off the tagent now, but drawing from life will help you become a better artist. If you can take photos and draw from those, learn to work on shading and cloth. I think you are very talented and can go a long way.

In my mid to late teens, I was very into drawing portraits. It's something I have to kind of re-teach myself, and then improve. That's good advice, going to the park and sketching people. It's crossed my mind once or twice, but I never acted on it. I think I will this Spring/Summer however. :D

I have a nice little habit sketching/drawing stuff in my paper diary (yup, I keep one). The entries I did over the weekend seemed pretty funny... to me at least.

Aw, I like them both a lot. Why were people turned away from NY ComicCon?

Aw, I like them both a lot. Why were people turned away from NY ComicCon?They over-booked the Javits and the Fire Marshall had them disallow anyone else to enter... even those of us that have had our tickets for over a month. I heard you were able to get in after 5 P.M. or so if you were lucky, but really, we were not going to wait around that long. If I still lived in the city, it would be a different story.

Yikes. Did they sell more tickets than the fire code allowed or something?
That sucks.
Poor Thing.

I wonder if you were able to get your Money back from that?

Poor Thing. I believe they did exactly that. Which is just ridiculous.

I wonder if you were able to get your Money back from that?Well, they're supposed to refund Chris's card or something. He's keeping track of that.

Those are awesome, Rae. The second one in particular - nice job on the facial expression. Thanks howy! :D

I don't remember the last time I was around, but things have been busy for me. I miss reading posts here, as well as posting myself. Anyway, I wanted to share a little sketch I did of Scarlet Witch in my diary. There's more stuff posted in my sketchbook (http://raerodriguez.blogspot.com/). Enjoy. Hope everyone's doing alright. :)

xxx,
Rae

Rae,
A pointer on the hands, try using longer lines, just let the pencil flow and try to not make so many short lines. :)
Also instead of a pencil try Graphite sticks, they are nice squarish blocks of graphite that are fun to use. It forces you to draw looser. It seems here you are trying to stay very tight. Let yourself go, and try to draw with your other hand as well. Do a few still lives with your left hand if you are right handed and vice versa.
Another thing to think of is line quality. Making your line go from thick to thin and vice versa to add character to your piece.

Since I took a hiatus from the forum over a year ago to return to school, I'm sure people have come and gone and I've missed out on a lot. I did try to keep up with my artwork, but people who regularly read my sketchbook will tell you posts have been far and few in between.

I'm hoping that will change now. To the few that may remember me, that I haven't seen in what feels like forever, how are you? Hope to catch up.
To the friends I have yet to make, hi, nice to meet you. Can't wait to get to know you.

Take care.

xxx,
Rae

LOL!!! I still have that photo saved. It was one of the most flattering things ever. :D

I look a bit different now though -- I cut my hair; it's incredibly short now. It's easier to work without it in the way. But I'm actually letting it grow back out.
