In reading today's Lying in the Gutters column, I noted that in passing it was mentioned that the new Batwoman is going to be a lesbian (assuming, as we must, that Batwoman is the lead character in the book). I had assumed that the new Batwoman would be either Barbara Gordon or Betty Kane, both of whom are heterosexuals to the best of my knowledge. (I guess Betty could swing both ways, but she did have a thing for Robin last time I looked.) So this suggests that Batwoman is someone else. Is it someone new or are we going to be finding out something new about an established character. (Of course, since I read very few of the Bat-line books, there could be a whole bunch of lesbian characters.)

I haven't been reading Gotham Central, but Renee Montoya is a lesbian.
So's Catwoman's sidekick-of-sorts Holly.
And both of them have girlfriends who appear fairly often.

I would think the candidates are Montoya (most likely), Holly (somewhat likely) and perhaps, as a dark horse, a new version of Kathy Kane, the original Batwoman.
But since I've heard that 52 features Montoya and that someone referred to her as "The Drunk Knight," I'm guessing Montoya.

Well, I think it has been said that Gotham Central will be going away (Can anyone back me up on that) and one of the "52" cover features Montoya (it looks like shes facing Killer Croc). Pu these two things together and it looks like she may be a likely candidate.
But, theres also a Batwoman that Supes and Batman run into in the end of the new Batman/Superman issue...

A bit more of an outsider would be Maggie Sawyer.
