I was flipping through The Island #2 and I noticed on the second to last page where Hecate(?) has the conversation with the African priest guy Hecate asks
"You feel it?"
and he responds:
"I smell the smoke...the fire can't be far behind"

This is just a theory but could this refer to the giant beast (or its death) from the end of The Black Flame? Probably not, but I noticed that wording was a little bit suggestive. Thoughts?

My take was that this was more figurative than literal, but maybe its a hidden reference to Liz's part in things to come...that's whats beautiful about stories like this...trying to read between the lines !

Very true. Personally, (and this is just a guess also) I think it's more a figurative postulation than anything literal. I don't think that Mike was trying to dovetail the two series in that way. Nor do I feel that the creatures from Hellboy's neverwhere land would be referring to the events in Black Flame so directly.

I could be completely wrong though, as I'm always willing to admit. :D

I would agree with you guys, except for the fact that I think they are going to keep BPRD and Hellboy seperate. I mean if HB new what the Black Flame had done, dont you think he would have helped out?
