Does anyone actually own this?
For the love of god I cannot find it anywhere. Is there only going to be one print or something?
I've tried most places online and even the owner of my local comic book shop who seems to have an almost encyclopaedic knowledge of Batman comics does not have answer for me as to why I can't find it.
Can anyone help?

I've been looking for it as well, but no luck. Best bet is eBay IMO.

I've looked all over Ebay. The one time I found it was on Ebay-Brazil.

I bought it when it came out. Ed Brubaker is an amazing writer!

It's a year-old PF one-shot that had a print run under 30,000. It will likely never be reprinted unless they include it in a compilation trade. That said Froogle has some hits for it. It appears on eBay occasionally and you'd have a good chance at finding a copy at a show.

Why were there so few copies printed? Anyone know?

Not sure. I saw one in my local comic shop a while ago. Not sure if it is still there. Perhaps they didn't think it would be so popular.
All I know is that it is an extremely good read. Just my opinion. I particularly liked how the beginning drew me into the story.

It's a great book, hope you can find copy somewhere.

Because not many people ordered it. Prestige Format issues generally don't have high sales.

This book deserves to be kept in print, like a classic trade (or The Killing Joke) would be. I don't own a copy, but I want one!
Not buying this when it was available may have been the biggest buying mistake I made in the last few years.

What was this about?
Basically Batman's first encounter with the Joker. Not in a "Killing Joke"-style, but in a more humorous/grusome style.

Sounds nifty. Mile High Comics seems to have a copy but I wonder if I could dig it up around here.

I bought this comic when it first came out but just read it today. It was really good and can't believe it took me so long to read it.

I had read about it, missed it when it came out and kicked myself for not getting my LCS to reserve it for me, and then chanced across a copy of it at a TPB sale at another comic store in my area and quickly grabbed it up. I really enjoyed it, but then I liked Brubaker's other Batman work, too, so I figured that it would be good. Probably my favorite Batman thing that he's done, and I loved Mahnke's art. Works nice as a companion piece to the Killing Joke when read back to back, too.

I always assumed that all Prestige Format books were kept in print. I'm pretty sure that books like Mad Love or Batman/Poison Ivy: Cast Shadows are always on the shelf at Midtown Comics whenever I go there. Pretty weird that this book is out of print, considering it's meant to be a retelling of the first Batman/Joker story, by the now-hot Ed Brubaker.
Maybe they'll offer it again when Morrison's Joker story comes out next year.

I had no idea this book was so rare. I, too, grabbed it when it came out, which is pretty unusual for me now that I think about it. I usually avoid the prestige format books, as well.
I agree, though, great read.

I had alot of trouble tracking this down. Had to get it on ebay eventually. But it was well worth it.
Fantastic book. Great modern re-telling of the Joker's introduction into Batman's life.

IMO, with a few tweaks, it would make an excellent jumping-off point for the story in The Dark Knight.

Man, I want this, too. I have no idea why I didn't get it. I mean, at the time, I was buying up anything I could get my hands on DC Comics-wise. Why didn't I get this?
What does the art look like?

It's done by Doug Mahnke. By which I mean, the art's awesome.

As well as being the first story of Batman VS the Joker, isn't this a re-telling of the first joker story published, or am I crossing wires here?

Just as a heads, DC is finally re-printing this as part of a new trade...

I know a lot of people have searched high and low for this.

Is the storyline added on (I think 3 Detective Comics issues) any good?

Yeah, this was from his short-lived Detective run. It's okay; nothing outstanding. Certainly not Brubaker's strongest work.

I wonder what has happened to the last storyarc Brubaker said he wrote for Tec' which apparently was already pencilled (by Sook, if I remember correctly) but never published.
He said DC would publish it later somewhere else, but they never did. If they finally start collecting Brubaker's run, now would be a good time.
(I think Brubaker called it his best Batman story yet.)
