So I've got a crappy internet service, at least for now. I was wondering if there were any fun computer games that you don't need to go online for. This could be a big mistake. I get tired of video games really easily. But I've kind of been wanting one for some reason lately. Is that "Movies" game any fun? It looked like it could be, but that it could also be really lame.

And if I DID get a good connection, is there an awesome online game? Keep in mind that City of Heroes bored me to tears.

The topic is going to get real random unless you tell what type of games you enjoy

I can't think of a game with more replayability than Civ 4. Takes a long time to play through, though.

Movies is fun if you enjoy entrepreneurial games, but I liked Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 more, but that's probably because of the thematic differences.

I don't really know what kind of games I like. I haven't played in a long time. CoH is the last one I got and I didn't like it. Before that, the games I remember liking were Civilization (the original one). X-Wing. I liked Knights of the Old Republic on X-Box. I liked a lot of multiplayer video games but that's not so much an option anymore.

Well if you liked X-Wing, you can try and hunt down Freespace 2, which seems to be the last significant entry in the space sim genre. Freelancer is a fine game but gets really tedious after awhile.

I can't for the life of me remember a recent PC RPG similar to Kotor, except kotor 2 of course. Going back in the way back machine, there's always Planescape: Torment, the BG series, and the Fallout series. Anachronox is an underdog I'll always recommend, although it lacks the refinement/polish of modern games, it more than made it up for me with the dialogue and characters. More recently, I enjoyed Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines, which is probably the closest to kotor, but with more action elements, but make sure you patch it.

Oh god yes! It's awesome, and narrated by SPOCK!

I think you'd really dig Rollercoaster Tycoon Joe. It's a lot of fun.

Before you make the plunge into something that requires a monthly fee again, there are some free MMORPGs out there to whet your appetite and help you get a feel for the genre.

Anarchy Online (http://www.anarchy-online.com/) is a commercial MMORPG that is apparently now free to play, at least until next year.

Maple Story (http://www.mapleglobal.com/) seems to be very popular as far as free MMORPGs, one of the most popular in fact. It's a fairly simple game and I got bored with it pretty quick, but you might like it better. If nothing else, it's a good game for a MMORPG beginner wanting to get a feel for the genre.

This site (http://www.mapleglobal.com/) seems like a pretty good index of all the major free MMORPGs out there.

And og course there's Guild Wars, which I know nothing about, but which I hear has no monthly fee.

and for a completely different FPSRPG action/adventure paranoid conspiracy theory type of game try Deus Ex. I consider this to be the greatest game of alll time, and I would be happy to bear Warren Spector's children.

Absolutely! Play the first one through 4 times and forget that the second one exists!

The second is actually a decent game. Not up to the standards set to the DE1 but it was fun for a while.

I liked Knights of the Old Republic on X-Box.You could give KOTOR II a shot. It's a lot of fun, if not quite as good as the original.

Mostly due to the hurried production leaving a bunch of stuff out. The characters are actually slightly more well rounded than the first one, I thought.

If you like Strategy games, I suggest giving Kohan II: Kings of War a shot. Its an underrated and largely unknown game, but very fun.

If you like Space Strategy games, the best ones are Homeworld and Homeworld 2. There are lots of Space RTS games, but I can't think of any that come close to these two. I'm crossing my fingers for Sword of the Stars.

I find the secret to MMO's is to play with people you already know and like.

I did, actually. But it felt like there wasn't much you could do. Maybe if I'd had a connection that didn't boot me off every time I played the game would have been more fun (duh).

Fallout and Fallout 2. They're cheap and very fun.
