asked Superman what he was thinking when he came up with that ridiculous outfit?
"Sooo.... do ALL Kryptonians wear their underwear on the outside?"

I mean, Lois seems like a pretty trendy kinda gal, wouldn't she make some sort of comment at one point or another?

It could make for a funny couple of pannels if she did right?

Perhaps it's one of those "off-panel" moments.

I wouldn't either.

"Hey, Smallville, now that we're married'n'all, I want to ask you something..."

Remember, Post-Crisis Superman was not the first high-profile superhero in DCU history; he was only the first one to start a resurgence of the superhero concept beginning about "ten years ago" (or a bit more). So if she asked him, he'd point out a) that actually Ma Kent designed it herself (at least, if that part of Byrne's Man of Steel mini is still in continuity - I don't know what Birthright says about it), and b) that Ma Kent was presumably inspired by memories of such Golden Age heroes as Dr. Fate, Starman, and probably others I'm forgetting.

Then he'd suggest she go pester one of those old-timers to find out how the tradition got started of designing costumes along those general lines.

When the subject of Superman and his underwear comes up I am always amazed that people are interested enough in comics to post on a message board dedicated to the medium but seem to lack the knowledge that almost every superhero wears their "underwear" on the outside of their suits whether it be the same color as their pants or not.

I like the episode of Lois and Clark where Tempus asks Superman, why the silly tights and cape and he tells him that his mother made it :D

That first episode of the whole series where she's trying to make his costume is priceless! Some of them involved leopard print, if I recall correctly!

My OP was intended as being tongue-in-cheek, :p
but I still think it could make for an interesting and humoristic page or two in any on-going Superman title.

What would be Superman's answer?

"It was my mom's idea" ?

"Hey, you try fitting a pair of fruit of the looms underneath this tight outfit... at least I'm not showing any panty lines" ?

"I was trying to start a new trend... guess it didn't catch, huh?" ?

"Hey, it keeps people from looking me straight in the eyes and wondering why I look so much like Clark Kent" ?

:D

Personally, I think that Lois is more interested in what's in the underwear to notice where they are located. What, I meant like a hidden utility belt or something. Sheesh, you pervs! ;)

That reminds me of something. Do a Google search for "Man of steel, woman of kleenex". Not necessariily one for the kiddies, but very entertaining. :D
